Ian McShane carries this show, i am glad they gave him an award. He pulls off a charismstic peotic swindler who has morals and a code. Some of the characters are more or less hardened wild characters shaped by a dog eat dog world. Worst of all is clalemity Jane an alcoholic victim who is constantly fighting everyone. Sexism, chauvinism racism sadust and sociopaths abound. The sheriff Bullock played by Timothy Olyphant is too caught up in his righteousness to be a bully like the saloon bosses and take on the meanacing bad guy Hearst. Interesting characters portrayed by Brian Cox add a splash of culture and intrigue to the swell of uneducated ignorant hired workers who work the gold mines. The camp lives with the threat of being destroyed weilded by cold-blooded magnet Hearst.
