A story more often bitter than sweet.

1. The two season tv series "Dead Like Me" benefited from great cast and great writing, but unfortunately there was almost always an underlying tone of negativity and depression coming from characters like Georgia, Mason and Georgia's parents, Mr and Mrs Lass. Georgia (George) is in constant state of regret about not living her life to the fullest and now that she exists as an undead grim reaper she tries to make up for lost time, while she is dead. Mason is probably the second most tragic figure having dinner his life on drugs and alcohol. Here we see him staggering around in a clown costume and searching for a liquor fix. Finally, in most episodes we are treated to the painful dysfunction of George's parents and her little sister Reggie. 2. Don't get me wrong. I like this series very much. It was a unique show and it ended way too soon. For a show about death it incorporates a lot of clever humor. One small example in "Send in the Clown" is where Roxy and her fellow meter maids are leaving a meeting and then hitting the streets in their three wheel vehicles while we hear the theme song to the 1980s police drama Hill Street Blues. This is one of the bright moments in a fairly depressing episode.
