The Muses and the Ring of Inspiration
claudio_carvalho12 May 2007
Phoebe asks Piper to find a spell to protect the human Cole. When the sisters meet the Halliwell's muse Melody, they become aware that the powerful warlock Devlin has stolen the ring of inspiration and is kidnapping the muses to increase his powers and create an evil faction to take the power of The Source. Inspired by their muse, the Halliwell sisters plot a plan to vanquish Devlin and save the muses.

"Muse to My Ears" is a delightful episode of Charmed. In this witty episode, there is a great participation not only of Piper, Phoebe and Paige, but also Leo, the great Cole and the muse Melody in a story full of action and funny situations. My vote is eight.

It sucks to be but a man, says the former half-demon

Warning: Spoilers
Probably the best part of the episode is seeing Cole strive to adjust to his new life. You just have to laugh because he's so bad at being human, and he clearly resents being excluded from the action, which is quite understandable for someone who used to be famous and feared. I also love his near-friendship with Leo, which is both so odd and so natural considering everything they have in common. Their little trip to the Underworld makes them look like two boys sneaking out while their sitters aren't watching. And really, how touching is it that Cole's biggest wound is that Phoebe won't marry him ?

Aside from that, the plot with the Muses is fun and never slows down as the demon and the Charmed Ones try to outwit each other. It is funny to hear everybody rhyme (and Cole makes fun of it), but also very relevant since the Power of Three depends on rhymes.

Muse it or lose it

Warning: Spoilers
Muse to my wars become aware of a faction of demons lead by Devlin who's stole the ring of inspiration and kidnaps muses to increase their power. A muse named Melody finds the Halliwells and tries to stop their evil plan before they can take control of the underworld. I think the episode works for many reasons as the plots very unique feathering muses as innocents being used to corrupt blind justice so demons don't get an advantage in battle against witches or innocents and almost apocalyptic in nature since it would let evil doers rule the world. The ring was created for times of justice yet no definition is given on its purpose or who guard's it and why the Elders allow a powerful device out of their site without destroying it. Humor runs amok when their passions run high causing them to rhyme, fight or inspire them in their hobbies to be the best from spell writing in Phoebe or painting in Paige's case.

I like how Leo & Cole must navigate the underworld like the hardy boys having each others backs and looking for clues. Its nice to see the guys getting involved in the action instead of sitting back and watching. My favorite scene involved Piper freezing the club, Leo hitting the strobe light as each looks out for warlock in their mists and prove why they are stronger as a team. Without it Deviln would trap a witch within the crystal embedded ring and game over instead of them saving the day. Muse to my ears is one of the best episodes to date not afraid to take risks or expand world building in a nice setting without relying on special effects or putting in cool action sequences with a well rounded story flowing naturally from What has been established before.

The One With The Muses...

Warning: Spoilers
I really like this episode. It's very interesting. I love how the show brings stuff about mythology and make-believe creatures and things like that, into their episodes.

In this episode, someone is stealing people's Muses and the sisters have to help their own Muse, Melody, from being captured as well. The demon is stealing Muses through a ring and he's doing this to increase his powers and create an evil demon-faction to overthrow The Source. Isn't that nice? Demons working together to become even more evil and to take out the most evil thing known to man. Eventually Melody is kidnapped as well and the sisters feel useless and Cole must lift their spirits up. Eventually, the sisters find the demon and they get the ring back from him, vanquish him and release all the Muses.

Overall, I give this episode a 9 out of 10.
