Right Ghost wrong show

Yes, Edward Mulhare played a ghost but on The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Nanny and the Professor had no ghosts that I recall. This episode was okay but nothing special. It didn't keep my interest and Cannon usually does.

READY FOR A NEW VILLAIN?
tcchelsey23 April 2022
Beautifully filmed TOP 10 episode with distinguished Edward Mulhare. Through the years he was often compared to Rex Harrison, and made the rounds of tv cop shows, without too much surprise. He appeared a few times on the FBI and after this episode was on STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO. On the lighter side he was the "ghost" in the GHOST AND MRS MUIR tv show, also playing Devlin on KNIGHT RIDER.

Meyer Dolinsky wrote this adventure, known for HAWAII FIVE O, however he made it a bit too easy to spot the killer. It's obvious who taunted a lion into killing a vet, and it's a graphic scene, reminiscent of the earlier season episode where victims were being killed by Dobermans.

That all said.... sly old fox Mulhare has Cannon on his back, asking endless questions and he's getting desperate. He throws a snake in Cannon's car, stuff all of us kids loved back in the day. Personally, after all these years, I think it would have been a better idea had Cannon given Mulhare a ride in the car with the snake under his seat!

Shortly before his death, he was offered a cameo part in the goofy AUSTIN POWERS series, but he declined. Edward Mulhare would have been perfect playing an eccentric James Bond-type villain. He is missed.

Sharon Acker, who appeared in the very first series episode, plays the victim's widow. Sharon was a natural and quite popular on tv at the time. A true professional and she and William Conrad make a great team. They probably worked together at Warner Brothers/ABC back in the 60s. She passed in March 2023.

This episode has some OUTSTANDING photography, especially at the start. The crew went out to Lion Country in Los Angeles, which was at its prime when this episode was filmed. It was designed to be almost like a safari, seeing all the wild animals in their home. Unfortunately, due to declining attendance, the sprawling attraction closed in 1984. Buildings and condos gobbled up the land.

This is a fitting memorial to a legendary LA tourist spot. Lion Country now based in Loxahatchee, Florida.

Also look for some familiar supporting actors (spot the face), such as Bill Erwin, playing a doctor, best known for some over the top roles.

Get the cookies. SEASON 3 EPISODE 21 remastered color CBS dvd box set, with blue and red dvds. 2012.

Writers were tired by the end?
steelblue5517 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
As Martin Hafer has mentioned the writing was pretty lazy from the beginning of this as far as creating any suspense. The bad guys decide to start attacking Cannon when he really has not learned anything to put them at risk. But the ending is really bad.... were the writers tired and just decided to do it quickly?

The villain goes in the cage and gets attacked by the lion... who wrestles with him instead of biting him and throws him around. At this point the guy has very minor injuries when he would really have major damage or be dead. Then Cannon pulls up fast, jumps out, and goes running in at full speed... because he knows the guy is being attacked... how? I guess they imagined he was yelling for help, but he never did. Then some random pistol shots scare the lion off... maybe.... but then when Cannon talks to the guy he immediately confesses to everything and explains it. Why? Cannon sees you attacked by a lion so he has proof? Even though he had figured part of it out he still had no real proof. But hey, there is only 10 minutes left and we have to finish the show, right.....

Decent enough...but no suspense at all about who is behind all this.
planktonrules15 April 2017
Often police and detective shows do a good job of misdirecting the audience and get them to wonder who is responsible for the crimes in the show. However, oddly, the writers didn't bother doing this at all with "Death of a Hunter" and the only logical suspect IS the one who is behind everything...a weakness of the episode.

When the episode begins, a supposedly experienced vet is killed when the lion he anesthetized turns out to be wide awake and angry...and it mauls him. Cannon investigates and finds that the tranquilizer dart was filled partially with the anesthetic...and partially with a stimulant!! Regardless, this scene was handled very poorly, as the dead vet shot the lion and entered the cage 30 seconds later...something you cannot do with a properly functioning tranquilizer dart! This and other killings are all caused by the guy you suspect five minutes into the show and so it's not hard for Cannon to put all the pieces together and solve the case.
