A Rest for the Gang
Hitchcoc4 February 2021
Most of the CSI's get a night off when Brass goes to LA. Ellie, his daughter, needs to know what happened to a fellow hooker who disappeared. Ellie continues to keep up here chosen life despite the kindness of her father. Brass gets together with a woman on the force with whom he once had an affair. The big city produces a heightened level of sleaze and duplicity, especially in the political hierarchy. Warrick happens to be there and helps with the missing person case. Paul Guilfoyle is a very good actor.

Brass Goes to Los Angeles
claudio_carvalho20 January 2023
When the prostitute Dakota leaves the street of Los Angeles in a car for a program with a client, she never contacts her friend Jersey again. On the next morning, Jersey reports to the police that Dakota is missing. The attending officer does not pay attention to her complaint and she calls her father on the phone asking for help. Jersey is Ellie and her father is Capt. Brass, who asks for a leave to the sheriff to resolve family problems. He contacts his old friend and LAPD Captain Annie Kramer, who gives their police records to Brass and he learns that Ellie works on the streets and her last address. When the car is located with broken windows, Capt. Kramer call one local CSI investigator that brings Warrick that is in a conference with him. Kramer and Brass visits the owner of the car, Assistant City Attorney Todd Piccone, who has not reported that his car was carjacked. He becomes a suspect but The Powers That Be seems to be not interested in resolving the case.

"Hollywood Brass" is a great episode of "CSI" centered in Capt. Jim Brass. The problem with his daughter Ellie is very sad, specially when he learns that she is a hooker. When he hears the drugged pimp telling what Jersey does with him is heartbreaking. My vote is eight.

The first time Paul Guilfoyle got screwed over.
JPBMILLION21 March 2016
Nearly a decade before cowardly producers and serpentine network suits ordered the scumbag firing of Paul Guilfoyle from CSI, he had his finest hour in this episode where HE, not William Peterson, was the anchor. We see Captain James Brass at odds with his superiors back home in Las Vegas and the corruption riddling Los Angeles all while grappling with the life his estranged daughter Ellie is living. Brass is fighting what seems to be a losing battle trying to save Ellie on many fronts, from (A) her descent into prostitution, (B) the hold drugs have over her and (C) those corrupt figures in LA who may see Ellie as a threat. Paul Guilfoyle delivered a command performance in this episode and the assholes at the Emmys refused to even nominate him for 2005's ceremony. A great actor who never got his due, a tale as old as time.
