Barney and his wife separate
kevinolzak20 May 2014
"Dog Days" was the episode that reveals the rift between Barney and his wife Liz (who does not appear), entering into a trial separation. Harris hits it off with an attractive wife (Rosalind Cash) searching for her missing spouse (Barney: "problem Harris?" Harris: "she's got a husband!"). Joseph Perry (third of four) plays Joseph Lasorda, brought in for running a dog fighting ring, who can't figure out why he's being arrested (Lasorda: "do you arrest prizefighters, two human beings trying to knock each other senseless?" Yemana: "you got a point!" Lasorda: "dog fighting's no different!" Yemana: "only smaller trunks, right?"). After his runaway German shepherd puts the bite on Wojo, Dietrich establishes the unpleasant facts about rabies, one shot in the stomach each day for two weeks (Barney: "was that necessary?" Dietrich: "I know, bad news, so kill the messenger!"). Barney thanks his men for their concern over his problems, so Nick cheers him up with one of Jack Soo's most famous lines (Yemana: "hey Barney, my grandfather had something to say about marriage!" Barney: "I have no doubts about that!" Yemana: "marriage is like a horse with a broken leg, you can shoot it...but that don't fix the leg!" Barney: "I like that...I think!"). This was the 27th straight episode listing James Gregory's Inspector Luger in the opening credits, and the last (appearing just ten times).
