done pretty well

I enjoyed this one, seeing the familiar faces again, and I believe I missed this one when it was out. Seems like the first I've seen it. The new Harry was fine, although someone else may disagree, that's not fair. If the original couldn't/wouldn't play the role again, aren't you grateful someone else did? And as for another one saying that Judy & Sandy 'aged badly' --are you kidding me? They all looked wonderful! And actually Jean & Judy lost a nice amount of weight and were very pretty. I get annoyed at people saying actors 'age badly'-- because the fact is, they AGED. What do you expect, them to stay the way they looked a decade or more before??? That's like when people said mean things about Carrie Fisher, she says, do they expect me to look like I did as a teenager? She was like 60! Gimme a break. People can be so very cruel. Maybe they should look at themselves as they age, because EVERYONE does.

As Time Goes By moves on
safenoe3 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I first started watching As Time Goes By when I was staying with my parents. They were watching the Paris episode. We're now at the end with the 2005 reunion special that is timeless. All the regular cast appear except for Joan Sims, who sadly died in 2001, and David Michaels who was unable to appear as Harry. Harry was played by Daniel Ryan, who gave Harry a more subdued tone than David. The episode opened with Harry wanting to join the English version of SWAT, much to the distress of Sandy, who later reveals she's pregnant. Jean is delighted she'll have a "grandchild".

David Oyelowo appears as Patrick, who plays Lionel's "son". David, along with his Kenyan family, were kindly supported by Lionel all those years ago. The look of Jean's face when Patrick introduced himself as Lionel's son was filled with racial subtext that could be explored in a Brexit-themed new reunion.

Alistair and Judy are struggling to have a baby, with Alistair buying special toys to get things moving, such as videos of glam models Lucy Pinder and Jana Defi.

Stephen wants to become a celebrity! This is quite prescient sadly, with Stephen wondering "what does that Tara Para whatever do?", being a reference to mega-celebrity Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, who sadly died in her 40s in 2017. Stephen also refers to the celebrity chef "Gordon what's his name".

Sadly there will be no more reunion. Jenny Funnell (Sandy) tweeted in 2017 that with the death of writer Bob Larbey in 2014, there'll be no more reunion unfortunately. If there was a reunion today, it would be sans Frank Middlemass (Rocky), Joan Sims (Madge) and Moyra Fraser (Penny).

This reunion special was dedicated to Phil Jones OBE (1927 to 2004), a producer of the series.

Ruined by fake Harry

Warning: Spoilers
Ruined by fake Harry (among other things), who somehow had a completely different personality and much more dialog than ever before. Bad writing, Bad acting. Judy and Sandy aged badly.
