One of the all-time best episodes

This was a great episode....number 11 in season 4. Anyway, it is classic just because Gomer tells Barney to ,"run up an alley and holler fish....there I said it and I ain't taking it back!" This one is titled "Citizens Arrest" and well worth the watch! 2 thumbs up, ya'll!!!! I don't want to give too much away but this is great inner play between Gomer and Barney. These two clowns always made me laugh and I get a laugh every time I view it. Great classic black and white film. Andy gets involved to make things right as usual. Good ole dumb witted Gomer finally gets it over on big daddy lawman Barney. Tell ya what, the world would be a much better place if everybody watched "Andy" at least once a day! Best of luck to you and yours. My cousin Goober has a boat that goes 35.....and that's fast on water!

Brillian Episode

Warning: Spoilers
Perhaps underrated alongside others like the Loaded Goat or the Kerosene Cucumbers (what we always called that episode), the Christmas episode, Barney arresting the town, the Lady Convicts, the first episode, choirs, beauty pageants and the endless like, this one always fails to be one of the strong contenders.

Nevertheless, it does define the spirit of Mayberry and the rich failure of the characters. Barney and Gomer locking horns with their persistence and typical nature is fabulous to behold.

By comparison to most American comedies, characters would have mellowed out toward one another by this time, yet Citizens Arrest shows Gomer and Barney are who they are (and in a sense, Andy as well) I'll honor the other review and not give away what happened.

Likewise look for brilliant contributions from Otis and as usual, Barney runs with the show and Gomer gets the final run in the episode.

With episodes edited to pieces today, I think I always missed an opening piece in which Andy and Barney reminisce about Barney's first starting as Andy's deputy and they both compliment and admire one another.

This then makes what happens so startling and unpredictable. Perhaps the original concept of the episode then was to be a conflict between Andy and Barney, but it ends up being outstanding for the altercation between Barney and Gomer.

Masterpiece.

In the Slammer for Barney
Hitchcoc9 December 2019
When Barney gets cooking, it's hilarious. There is an incredible public scene where Gomer arrests Barney for making a U-turn. He is returning the favor. Barney refuses to pay the fine and ends up in jail. One of the funniest episodes ever.

Only Barney would make a U-turn after his speech.

A unique episode of tension between Andy & Barney. Also. Barney & Gomer. The citizen's arrest is a classic scene of Gomer sticking up for himself, and Barney totally out of control. Brilliant to have the blow-up in front of a crowd to incite the fireworks even more.

Barney will turn on Andy a few times in the series. Ironic, he owes everything to Andy constantly covering up his stupidity.

Had to be a violation how prisoners were left overnight with no officer on duty. Otis gave Barney a very funny razzing.

Very good epilogue bringing to light Barney's many previous resignations.

I have many favorite episodes...

But this isn't one of them. Barney is his usual self righteous over the top idiot.

Talks down to people by trying to act superior to them.

Only saving grace to the whole episode is Otis Campbell. His "Barney's in jail! ""Barney's in jail!" I love it! They even have that in a few advertisements of the show. I stop what I'm doing and watch it. It cracks me up.

"Barney's an idiot!" "Barney's an idiot!" Is more like it.

As one can tell I don't like Don Knotts or Barney Fife. He is not a good actor and shows it by over acting the scenes he's in.

My favorites are Andy, Opie and Aunt Bee. I think Otis is a doll. Deep down he's a real nice guy.

BARNEY RESIGNS AGAIN!

All I can say about this episode is that Barney Fife continues to make a complete fool of himself, to the point of being annoying! I love good comedy too, but I really don't find the character of Barney Fife funny anymore. All he does is scream, overreact, and acts like a big shot, only to humiliate himself way too often! In real life a deputy like Barney would have been terminated shortly after being hired.

Not sure why people like this episode

Warning: Spoilers
I didn't find anything in this episode funny or entertaining. Maybe people like Gomer's goofy voice? Barney choosing jail and quiting the force is too over the top. Maybe there's the moral lesson of think before you act? Other than that, this episode is a big miss in what was a great 4th season.
