"Won't Get Fooled Again" (The Who)
chashans8 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The episode has a strange start. Malloy, Reed and other Officers find it funny that another Officer has received a black-eye while answering a call regarding a domestic dispute. That's basically it for this quick segment. Black-eye = Funny. I don't get it.

Then it's off to deal with a couple religion loving dudes who hate one another. They say they don't, but the looks in their eyes say they're ready to tear each other apart. Corny and awful sintar music accompanies the segment.

Next, a bit of a blooper takes place. Malloy and Reed, in the squad car, are stopped at a red traffic light. An awesome red Ford Mustang Convertible is behind them. Suddenly, the Stang tears out, heading directly passed Malloy's side of the car. Then the shot changes to the squad and a bunch of cars stopped at the light. The Stang is now passing a line of other cars which are also stopped at the light, to Malloy's side of the car. Unfortunate editing, but the Director on scene should have handled that better. Of course, there are lots of times when little bloopers go by without being anything too bad. This goof is quite a stand-out though. The episode redeems itself when M & R pull the Stang over and the driver is revealed. Looks like maybe bachelor Malloy might just have a date for the next Saturday night.

After a quick call dealing with some very old "kids" who may or may not have been planning on robbing a liquor store, the partners respond to a call regarding loud music in a quiet neighborhood.

This final segment starts mildly then quickly escalates into frightening, heart-wrenching territory. A most unexpected turn of events for Malloy, Reed and the viewers at home.

Memorable episode

Warning: Spoilers
This is one several episodes that sticks in my mind, even years after I've seen it. I noticed it in the TV listings and made a point to catch it recently.

The first 2/3 of the episode is pretty average, even a little below average. But their final segment is a masterpiece. I never know who to credit these special episodes to, either Jack Webb or Cinader, or who. The touch is lighter than Jack's, but it has that Jack Webb flavor.

The final segment involves Reed and Malloy investigating a noise complaint that quickly turns into an attempt to rescue a little girl from a backyard pool, at night, by flashlight. Very hard to describe adequately, as most Adam-12 episodes are. But sometimes they are miniature masterpieces, and this is one of them.

Marlene Treacy does not appear in this episode even though she's in the credits.

Marlene Treacy is not in this episode as a waitress. She's in the credits though. Weird.
