Zany fun.

I enjoy Bounty, even if it makes absolutely no sense at all, it's as if two different writers penned a story, and the two halves of both were bolted together in a random fashion.

It's not the best story, but I find it very enjoyable, the only time in Blake's 7 we have a somewhat traditional Earth feeling, with a classic car escape, and a grammar phone playing Blow the Wind Southerly.

The Bounty Hunters are a poor race of aliens, but Sarkoff and Tyce are as mystified by the events as the actors playing them.

It's nonsense, but thoroughly enjoyable. 7/10

Unconvincing Episode That Never Really Gells
Theo Robertson24 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Blake and Cally teleport down to a planet to contact Sarkoff the ousted leader of the Plant Lindor and get him to unite his people against the Federation . Meanwhile back on The Liberator a spaceship contacts the crew saying they need assistance

This is an episode held in very low regard . Terry Nation submitted a script very much underlength and script editor Chris Boucher padded it out . Unfortunately it's painfully obvious how much of the running time is blatant padding . On top of that you've got what is often a bugbear with the show - dual plotting ie a couple of the crew are stuck on a planet while the rest of the crew have their hands full dealing with a problem back on the ship

Irish actor TP McKenna guest stars as Sarkoff a deposed political leader and gives a very theatrical showy performance complete with prosaic self pitying dialogue. This isn't necessarily a criticism but there's something self conscious about this likewise the anachronistic luxuries he surrounds himself with including a car from the 1920s . Would it be logical to assume a mode of transport from centuries ago would still be a functioning item today . Ask yourself this - how many eccentric millionaires ride around on a penny farthing ?

With hindsight what lets the episode down is the reliance on The Liberator crew being dumb enough to let themselves be captured . The series does suffer from a relatively large number of episodes where intruders access the ship down to the fact they never listened to Avon and you'd think they'd wise up to this after the first two or three times it happens . I'm guessing once bitten twice shy is a phrase that doesn't exist in the future ? This week's villains are the Amagons , bounty hunters who live up to Arab stereotypes who like to put an explosive necklace round their prisoners neck that strangely explode via cartoonish stars ! This probably sums up this bizarre unconvincing episode

A very good Bounty

In "Bounty" Blake sets out to convince the exiled former president of the planet Lindor, Sarkoff, to return to a leadership role before the Federation takes control of Lindor. Meanwhile The Liberator is taken over by bounty hunters called The Amagons.

"Bounty" is a well-paced and exciting Blake's 7 episode which features an interesting and exciting plot that is far removed from the filler of some season one episodes. T.P. McKenna is a superb guest star as Sarkoff and the dialogue between him and Blake as well as Cally. The discussion of the Federation provides further perspective on their actions and moves the overall story of the series forward. Without a strong script this episode could have been awful but it works excellently.
