Key-Hole Varieties was another of the burlesque shorts I just watched on DVD
tavm20 October 2015
This was yet another of the burlesque shorts on a DVD full of them. In the one, you see the musicians accompanying the three strippers. Yes, there are only three not four as in the other shorts I just watched. Oh, and they take off their bras revealing pasties on their boobs. As usual, I didn't find any of them arousing but I'm sure many a red-blooded male did at the time of filming. Okay, once again I know these reviews on this site are supposed to be at the least 10 lines long but, once again, I'm running out of things to say about these shorts. How about the dances seemed really long here with only three presented. Well, we've almost reached the threshold so I'll just say Key-Hole Varieties is worth a look for anyone interested in this sort of thing.

No Need for Slow Mo

Key-Hole Varieties (1954)

** (out of 4)

This here is one of six shorts including on the DVD release of Hollywood BURLESQUE/PEEK-A-BOO from Something Weird Video. The burlesque genre is certainly one that people are going to love or hate. For me, I tend to lean more towards the hate aspect but there's no question that these films have an interesting history and those seeking out at-one-time-dirty entertainment might find them of interest.

This here was the fifth short in the extras section and the first one not to feature four strippers. This one here just has three (Libby Jones, Vaida, Mitzi Doenee) and I can't imagine that a fourth one would have been any worse. I found the first dance from Jones to be okay but the next two were pretty bad. The worst was clearly the third one and it's slow motion was something incredibly bad because you just want the thing to be over with. It's worth noting that this was produced by George Weiss, the brilliant producer behind such classics as GLEN OR GLENDA?
