Duck Dodgers in the 21st 1/10 century

One of the many short documentaries on the "Looney Tunes: Golden Collection" DVDs, "Behind the Tunes: Animal Quackers" goes into some detail about the pairing of Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, and some info about Marvin the Martian.

I should say that what I mostly find interesting in these mini-documentaries is the presence of relatives of the cartoons' creators. Otherwise, how many of these things can there be? True, I really like "Duck Dodgers in the 24th 1/2 Century" and was fascinated by the trivia about it, but that's about it for this one.

All in all, OK in a pinch.

A So-So Look At A Few LT Characters

This "documentary" on disc 2 of the Looney Tunes: Golden Collecton Volume One, provides a brief history of Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and even a little bit on Marvin the Martian.

First, we get some background information of Porky Pig and who he was teamed with before they hit the best combination of Porky and Daffy Duck. It's then explained how those two characters were presented differently with different directors and in different eras. "Duck Dodgers In The 24 1/2 Century," is discussed at length, which is appropriate since it's last cartoon on this disc. A note on the latter animated short: Marvin The Martian, it was said, is a lot more famous now that when he was presented back in the '50s.

Overall: fair,and not as interesting as some of the other "behind the tunes" features.

Daffy & Porky team-up primer

This short four and 18 second featurette, which can be found as an extra on Disc 2 of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 1. It's nothing more than a basic primer about the different pairings of Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, I'm thinking, with an eye geared for newbies to the classical Looney Tunes. It details the various standout cartoons they teamed-up in and goes a bit into Marvin the Martian as well. This is really REALLY basic stuff (the same can be said for pretty much all the other Behind the Toons feauterettes that are on Volume 1, fortunately the Behind the Tune features would get so much better starting with the ones found on volume 2).

My Grade: C+

ANIMAL QUACKERS is not as focused . . .

. . . as most of the other BEHIND THE TUNES Warner Bros. Looney Tunes Golden Collections DVD "extras." Is Porky Pig or Daffy Duck supposed to be the subject of ANIMAL QUACKERS? Also, it's kind of haphazard, unprofessional, and user Unfriendly to feature three primary example animated shorts here (DEDUCE YOU SAY, ROBIN HOOD DAFFY, and DUCK DODGERS IN THE 24 1/2TH CENTURY), but only have TWO of them available on the disc (LTGCI, #2) featuring this extra (which does NOT contain ROBIN HOOD DAFFY among its 14 classic shorts). Furthermore, the Looney Tuner expert providing the alternative soundtrack (or commentary) for ONE FROGGY EVENING emphasizes that this is the ONLY Pre-1970 appearance of Michigan J. Frog, so why are the other Looney Tuners contributing to ANIMAL QUACKERS lumping Michigan J. together with the Tasmanian Devil and Marvin the Martian, who each starred in multiple classic Looney Tunes. Are they trying to quack us up, or something?
