However, for many Deadliest Catch fans, they like the show more for these scenes.
Here is what fans say about Deadliest Catch and its “fake scenes.”

Discovery Channel fans are growing frustrated at Deadliest Catch, and many are voicing their opinions. There are some fans who even think the show should end. Why are they so irritated with the show that brings mariners out crab fishing in dangerous waters? Read on to find out their main complaints.
Deadliest Catch Critics Miss The Early Seasons
Many fans of Deadliest Catch mock the production team for what they think are silly scenes. For example, hardly anyone on social media believes those tough fishermen would sit and cry during interviews. Others feel that it’s become so fake and scripted that it hardly deserves the word “reality” to be associated with it.
Deadliest Catch, Sig Hansen, Mandy Hansen
Other Deadliest Catch fans hate that the show brought women onto the vessels. They claim it’s not sexist to criticize the girls who are not as physically strong as the men.

Captain Sig Hanson made some decisions about his 18-year-old daughter, Mandy Hanson that angered his crew. Furthermore, rough weather conditions made things uncomfortable for the Deadliest Catch crew as they hauled in the crabs in the stormy Bering Sea.
Discovery Channel’s Captain Sig Hanson Has A Hardworking Crew
Some people don’t like the direction that the Discovery show takes at the moment. And, it doesn’t seem to be about the fact that more women are at sea. Actually, it’s about them not pulling their weight. Viewers are already familiar with Sophia Nielsen on F/V Victory. In Mandy’s case, it’s more about her boss-dad favoring her. Naturally, it’s a hard and dangerous job, and the crew doesn’t like to go shorthanded.

Discovery Channel’s hit franchises, like “Gold Rush” and “Deadliest Catch,” featured plenty of blood and sweat. But where were the tears? That’s something Howard Lee immediately began asking, upon taking control of the network at the end of 2022.
After Lee was handed the keys to Discovery that December, “I spent my entire Christmas vacation devouring, scrutinizing, every single Discovery Channel show and familiarizing myself with it, like a fanboy. And looking at, of course, the ratings for each one and the budgets.”
As head of TLC, Lee helped grow the network to new heights thanks to blockbuster franchises like “90 Day Fiancé,” where emotion was his bread and butter. But after his crash course in Discovery fare, Lee felt that the flagship network could do a better job of creating programming that its audience found viscerally enthralling.

PlayStation, Warner Bros. Discovery Reach Licensing Agreement Allowing Users to Keep Purchased Shows
More than 1,300 titles were set to disappear from PlayStation libraries at December’s end, but a new deal means they’ll stay put for now.
There are still a few days before Christmas, but Sony and Warner Bros. Discovery are teaming up to give out early presents to PlayStation owners. Reversing an earlier announcement, Sony and Wbd agreed to a new licensing deal that will prevent titles like “Deadliest Catch,” “MythBusters” and 1,300 other Discovery shows from being deleted from PlayStation libraries.

Reversing an earlier announcement, Sony will no longer remove Discovery TV shows purchased by its consoles’ owners.
Fans of Cake Boss, Deadliest Catch (pictured) and Outrageous Acts Of Science rejoice: Sony has reversed a previous announcement that it was to delete a huge list of Discovery TV shows from PlayStation consoles.
In early December, Sony announced that “content licencing arrangements” meant that some 1,300 reality TV shows, dramas and documentaries were going to be deleted, irrespective of whether they were paid for by users.
Sony now says – as reported by GI.biz – that it has an “updated licencing agreement” with Warner Bros (which owns Discovery), meaning those shows will still be available to users for at least the next couple of years or so.
“Similar to other services, we do not own the licensing rights to TV/movie content that was previously available for purchase on PlayStation Store,” a statement from PlayStation reads.

Shows like ‘Cake Boss’ and ‘Naked and Afraid’ will soon be disappearing from your PlayStation library, whether you paid for it or not.
One of the worst changes brought on by the streaming revolution is the lack of content ownership. Digital purchases are highly convenient, allowing users to have their favorite show or movie available on-demand anywhere. The flipside of this coin is that often, customers who “buy” a show or movie digitally don’t actually own that content permanently.

With the corporate-friendly copyright laws printed on current edition U.S. law books, film distribution and production companies are the default custodians of cinema. That doesn't mean they approach the responsibility of ensuring people can watch what they want, with the attitude it deserves. Quite the opposite; films and TV are devalued as mere "content," can linger in rights-holding limbo away from public exhibition, and in the streaming era, it's easier than ever to just destroy a film, as Warner Bros. Since most of discovery+’s content is available on Max, some users might decide the time is now to upgrade.
The race to profitability is on, and streaming customers are facing the choice of getting out of the way or getting trampled. Ad-free streaming plans are rising in price all over the marketplace, and discovery+ got in on the game this week when it informed customers that effective immediately, its commercial-free plan was rising in price from $6.99 to $8.99 per month.
Ad-supported discovery+ brings in more money per subscriber than the ad-free plan, so its price is staying the same at $4.99 per month. But considering that much of the content from discovery+ is now available on Warner Bros. Discovery’s flagship streaming platform Max, some customers might be wondering if the time is now to make the switch.

Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch shows the difficulties of crab fishing on the Bering Sea. Through 19 seasons of the show, fans have seen injuries and deaths occur on the crab boats — and the F/V Cornelia Marie was no stranger to this. Here’s a ranking of the worst injuries on the Cornelia Marie.
5. A crewmember sprained his ankle after getting hit with 80,000 gallons of water
One Deadliest Catch crew member aboard the Cornelia Marie experienced multiple injuries while fishing. One such injury occurred while the boat attempted to outrun an ice pack. The weather conditions were extremely difficult for the crew, thus creating unsafe conditions.
Ultimately, Taylor, one of the crew members dealing with the crab pots in the harsh weather, was tossed across the deck by 80,000 gallons of water. He sprained his ankle and couldn’t continue working for the evening.
Captain Casey McManus commented on the boat entering the rough waters.

Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch Season 19 continues to show the fisherman braving the Bering Sea. The show’s had its fair share of scandals through the years, and some past cast members had close associations with serious crimes. Here’s what to know about Joshua Tel Warner, the cast member who robbed banks.
Joshua Tel Warner, a crew member from ‘Deadliest Catch,’ robbed banks 3 times
Deadliest Catch Season 19 focuses on the fisherman starring in the series, so current fans may not know of Joshua Tel Warner. Warner worked on the F/V Wizard, and he often had confrontations with other crew members while aboard the boat. He also had a dark history that included bank robberies.
Warner first robbed Washington Mutual Bank in Oregon on Oct. 19, 2007, though police missed him at first. After this robbery, he joined Deadliest Catch. Later, on April 3, 2009, he robbed Pacific Continental Bank. Three weeks after his second robbery,...

Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch Season 19 stars Captain Sig Hansen and his daughter, Mandy Hansen, aboard the F/V Northwestern. Sig has been a part of the series for over a decade, but fans are unlikely to see him open up about certain details from his past. Here’s what to know about Sig’s first marriage to Lisa Eckstrom.
Captain Sig Hansen was briefly married to Lisa Eckstrom
Deadliest Catch Season 19 fans occasionally see Sig Hansen’s wife, June Hansen, on the small screen. But Sig had a marriage before June. Sig was briefly married to his first wife, Lisa Eckstrom, and they had a child together.
It’s unclear how long Sig and Lisa were married. While they had a daughter, Melissa Eckstrom, together, they separated before she was born. The courts awarded Sig visitation rights after the divorce trial in 1992, but he ultimately chose to relinquish his rights.

Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch Season 19 proves crab fishing in the Bering Sea is as dangerous as ever. Fans continue to see the captains and their crews face medical disasters and rough seas as they head out to catch crab. And fans who’ve kept up with the series likely remember these dangerous moments when crew members were thrown overboard.
‘Deadliest Catch’ deckhand Spencer Moore was thrown over the F/V Summer Bay
Deadliest Catch deckhand Spencer Moore nearly met his end after a dangerous situation in 2017. Moore, who worked aboard the F/V Summer Bay under Captain “Wild” Bill Wichrowski, struggled on the vessel as he attempted to attach a crab pot to the block. Moore was then swept over the boat’s railing by a rushing current.

The size and scope of producing a single season of “Deadliest Catch” is hard to fully fathom. There are seven different producing-camera teams on seven different boats, rolling cameras around the clock, producing 25,000 hours of footage over the course of a fishing season.
To ensure visual and narrative cohesion and quality, series editor Rob Butler and cinematographer David Reichert — both 2023 Emmy nominees — must stay across an enormous team and complicated workflow. It’s a task complicated by their limited ability to shape what is being shot as the stories unfold. This is because it takes weeks to get the footage off the boats (they often have to wait until the fishermen come ashore to offload their catch) and FedEx hard drives to Los Angeles, where a team of seven assistant editors load and log hundreds of hours of footage every week.

Although the Best Structured Reality Program Emmy has only gone to two series (“Shark Tank” and “Queer Eye”) since being introduced in 2014, the corresponding unstructured award has been won by six different shows in the same stretch of time. “Love on the Spectrum” took the 2022 prize but is out of the running this time, leaving 2021 winner “RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked” as the only show with a shot at pulling off the category’s first repeat victory in four years.
“Untucked” is one of three returning contenders in the current Best Unstructured Reality Program lineup, along with “Indian Matchmaking” and “Selling Sunset.” Both were bested by RuPaul’s series in 2021, while the latter also lost alongside it in 2022. Rounding out this bunch are “Vanderpump Rules,” which has finally broken through with Emmy voters after 10 seasons, and new show “Welcome to Wrexham,” which, according to Gold Derby’s odds, is heavily favored to win.

There’s no denying that crab fishing is a risky, high-stakes occupation. But does Deadliest Catch sometimes amp up the drama for the sake of TV? Some say yes.

For a while, consolidation seemed like nothing more than a panicked reaction to a bustling streaming marketplace. Sure, there were lots of new streaming services popping up, but there were billions of global customers to go around. Surely, the market could support dozens, or even hundreds, of niche streaming platforms without any major problems… right?
In 2023, most of those notions have been shattered. The majority of media companies have found streaming to be highly unprofitable thus far, despite compiling tens of millions of subscribers. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav recently predicted that consolidation of streaming platforms was inevitable, and helped to fulfill his own prophecy by merging HBO Max and discovery+ into the new service Max on May 23.

There were plenty of notable firsts among this year’s Emmy nominees. Two of TV’s biggest breakout stars, Bella Ramsey and Jenna Ortega, picked up their first acting nominations. And there was also Jury Duty, the little Freevee show that could, sneaking in with an Outstanding Comedy Series look, and Jason Segel, after years of being reliably hilarious on How I Met Your Mother, finally earning an Emmy nod for Shrinking.

You know that it’s their time: “Vanderpump Rules” has officially been nominated for its first Emmy award.
After a shell-shocking 10th season that drew in record-breaking ratings for the series and Bravo at large, the Lisa Vanderpump-led series has been named one of the five nominees for unstructured reality. It’s competing against “Deadliest Catch,” “Life Below Zero,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked,” and “Welcome To Wrexham.”
When news broke during the airing of the show’s 10th season that castmates Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix had split amid Sandoval’s ongoing affair with fellow co-star Raquel Leviss, cameras quickly began rolling to capture the fallout. The quarrel shifted the friendships of the Los Angeles-based “Vanderpump Rules” cast so much that Leviss took out a restraining order on her former best friend and co-star Scheana Shay for an alleged punching that took place when the affair was revealed.
