A documentary about making the romantic historical drama "Immortal beloved"
netjustice21 August 2006
Update: My bad. "Beloved Beethoven" is the documentary about filming "Immortal beloved" (may be of interest for those who liked the movie). The following was actually written about "Immortal beloved". ------------------------

In fact the movie is named "Immortal beloved" and is based on a real mystery of the composer's correspondence with an unknown lover. The film unfolds Beethoven's biography during a journey by the executor of his testament trying to identify this enigmatic woman who happens to be the only heir. A historical figure, this notary was the composer's assistant and long time friend. The plot involves several stories related to key feminine characters in Beethoven's life, thus covering a substantial part of his biography.

The cast is great, the music performed by Sir Georg Solty is excellent; Gary Oldman actually plays some of the most difficult pieces. He also created a very convincing image of Beethoven - far from idealization, yet complex and powerful. The locations are beautiful and atmospheric.

In summary, this is a highly recommended romantic historical drama.

One of the best I've seen in this category.

I just saw it on television. I loved Gary Oldman in Immortal Beloved. I believe without being an authority , that his acting was superb. Very convincing and the story wonderful full of vital details, and very moving. I really believe Beethoven must have been the way Oldman portrayed him, I felt this even before he appeared in the film. I just knew what he was going to be like. I felt so sorry for him as a mistreated and abused child. Surely the writer of this film wanted everyone to have a more comprehensive understanding of Beethoven's personal life and problems. The scenery is fantastic and the whole cast was just perfect. But the film wouldn't have been the same without this wonderful actor. I believe sincerely that Mr. Oldman loved this character more than many others he's portrayed. Oh he is a great actor and the story was exciting and one of the best I've seen in this category. And well, since it seems I have to write more in order to get published all I can think of saying is that I've always liked Gary Oldman's films, he seems dedicated and temperamental even in his personal life, an incredibly hard worker when it comes to acting a certain role. He is excellent in the Fifth Element, and all the others which I can't remember at the moment. And since I know I'd like to see the Beethoven film again, I will have to buy it to have at home.!!! --martha, Mexico city.
