SUNSET is a typical romantic melodrama from the Shaw Brothers stable, with a contemporary setting and a doomed love affair at the centre of the story. The stars are the ubiquitous Ching Li, one of Shaw's most popular actresses during the era, alongside Paul Chun, best known for playing a number of character actor roles in the 1980s (when he was more heavyset) as well as being David Chiang's brother. The episodic storyline moves through the usual melodrama and tragedy territory, with highs and lows played out in the typically earnest way.
