This game was one of the greatest jewels ever found at Toys R Us.

Bought it for a moderately cheap price as I think it didn't sell well, but it ended up being one of my favorite games of the original Playstation.

It is a simple side scroll space shooter where you play as a kind of freelance ace pilot from a lunar city on the moon that takes on just about everybody of the earth defense fleet which is primarily German. You take on the sheer numbers of their horde of enemy fighters with a superior more maneuverable fighter that can take advantage of enemy fighters by stealing their weapons.

As a shooter the gunpod element adds a lot to it. As its not the same powered repeating cannons used over and over, nor just upgrades to the cannons to make them more powerful. Its an model you can see hanging off the bottom/top of your ship with different firing animations for each gunpod (what the game calls stolen enemy weapons).

Lastly the game has got style. Some objects in the environment are destructible, there are multiple paths you can travel, three weapons to start with, unlockable weapons and fighters, cool boss fights, and memorable levels.

Its just an interesting game that totally surprised me when I bought it.

One of the best shoot'em ups ever. Slick, stylish & atmospheric with gameplay to match

This is an underrated gem of a game. The presentation, music and gameplay are all top notch. I just wish Square had made more action games like this. It has all the style and atmosphere of their best RPGs, but in a shmup instead.

The gameplay is fresh and intelligent too, some of Square's RPG design is apparent with intelligent management of multiple weapons and enemies with multiple hit areas.

On top of all that, the presentation and soundtrack to this game is second to none. The music is dynamic and the Blade Runner, cyber-punk dystopian setting is perfectly realised in enemy and background design. This all combines to make an atmosphere like no other game in the genre.

This is one hell of a unique shoot'em up and a must-play for all fans of the genre!
