The Dreamer And The Dream
bkoganbing25 January 2009
Pixel Perfect finds genius science kid creating something that was in the Star Trek - Next Generation future. Ricky Ullman was no doubt channeling his Phil Of The Future character for this endeavor.

The science genes come from his father Brett Cullen who is working on holograph technology. Ricky's already created a holograph cat which disappears once it leaves the confines of the holograph projection space and goes into the great outdoors.

Ricky's girlfriend Leah Pipes leads an all girl rock band and she writes the band material. But she doesn't have that charisma in putting over the vocals. But our science genius Ullman solves the problem by creating a holographic Britney Spears/Jessica Simpson etc. type lead singer in the nonperson of Spencer Redford.

Spencer's character is best compared to the doctor on Star Trek Voyager which is at least 500 years in the future. As you remember Robert Picardo was constantly challenging the limits put on him as a holograph projections. As Spencer develops a self awareness and Leah develops jealousy you can see what problems are created especially after the band becomes a hit.

Pixel Perfect though absolutely technologically impossible now does ask some interesting questions on the very meaning of life and creativity. I wish it had not been done by the Disney Studio and had been aimed at a higher audience than what they draw. The Magic Kingdom just isn't equipped for these kind of issues.

The absence of perfection is what makes us special in our imperfections...
RosanaBotafogo14 January 2023
Samantha is the leader of a band that struggles to get its space. When her friend, Roscoe, creates a virtual singer, the group becomes a success. But everything gets complicated when Roscoe must deal with Samantha's feelings and those of his own creation. A Disney movie.

I don't know why, but I feel attracted to these silly Disney movies in the worst and best "afternoon session" style, very adolescent, a simple script, very weak special effects, but always has that cute little moral lesson, a message of hope and overcoming that I love... The film essentially portrays the search for perfection, or rather, the absence of perfection is what makes us special in our imperfections...

Pixel Perfect (2004)(Disney)
Puppyangelz1117 April 2004
Warning: Spoilers
This is a great Disney Channel movie. I recommend it to all children 8 and up. Even grown -ups might like this movie. this may include spoilers:

Roscoe, is a computer guy. (LOL)He makes hollographic cats, and now he will make the best thing you can make out of hollograms..... a person. you see , Samantha,Roscoe's friend, has a band. The band needed a new memeber to be in it to sing. Roscoe came up with this brilliant idea to make a computerized, or hollographic girl. He controlled everything she did with his computer, and everything she knew came right off the internet. Roscoe falls in love with her because he created her and he made her his "perfect girl". Now,Sam likes Roscoe to! Which will Roscoe pick ...... Reality or Fantasy??

Emotional,a tear jerker
LiloandStitch0117 January 2004
This, along with Color of Friendship and Tru Calling,is a tear jerker,a lot of people on the forum said they didn't have high expectations for this movie,to be honest, neither did I,then I saw it,I was crying all the way to the end,all the cast do a suburb job of bringing their characters to full vivid life, even Ricky Ullman as Roscoe, and the songs were beautiful, people really need to get the message of the movie,it's our flaws that make us human, perfection describes machines and programs(Like Loretta),so take my advise, watch this movie

One of the best Disney movies
ARCHTECHFL12 February 2004
After all the droll of the Mowry movies on Disney Channel, Pixel Perfect turned out to be a breath of fresh air. I'm pleased to say that the only times I fast forward on the tape are to skip the commercials.

The main characters were all well-defined. Rachel and Cindy seemed in the movie for relief and to chip in the occassional comment; Roscoe's dad had a little more character to him. Loretta's struggle to obtain some sort of humanity was somewhat old since I'd seen this concept on "ST: Voyager" with the EMH, but with Sam, Roscoe's best friend turned girlfriend, thrown in, the combination was not that bad.

The music in the movie struck me as hokey sometimes. I could tell that in some sequences, it seemed that the vocals were just coming out of the air instead of Loretta's mouth. One of the best songs was "Get Real" with its jazzy, high-tech melodies. What really surprised me was the score by Philip Marshall, which reached its high point in the end with a nice flute undertone; it made the end of the movie very poignant.

The exploration of human relationships was well-done for a Disney movie. Here, Sam and Roscoe were dealing with real issues, Roscoe with having trouble seeing the benefits of reality in Sam while distracted with Loretta, and Sam dealing with her jealously with Loretta and trying to > convince Roscoe "I'm real." Life may not be fun, but when someone real like Sam comes along, live

What a Disaster!
Taynna16 June 2004
I'm not sure who should be blamed for this debacle - in truth, the acting isn't too bad and the story isn't as terrible as some made-for-Disney movies have been. The story itself is shallow and undeveloped but that isn't surprising in a film of this type. The acting is more than a bit two-dimensional, but I give the actors credit for managing to do anything with the material that they had to work with.

However, it's inexcusable, in my book, to base an entire storyline on the theory that they've created a 'perfect' pop star and then cast an actress who can't sing to save her life. If the girl can't sing, have someone who can record the music!

This actress is a TERRIBLE singer - she was so flat she was usually singing in a totally different key!

Sweet
coolfemale7 April 2006
It's a Disney Channel movie. So it's not going to win any Oscars, or make use of realistic science, and it's quite predictable. But it's fun, and sweet.

Loretta is quite annoying in places, but I think that was the point. However the dubbing when the girls are singing is very unconvincing, those scenes can be painful to watch I'm afraid. But I loved the sequence near the end in the rain.

A great movie to watch if you can suspend your disbelief enough and have some time to kill and it appears on TV, but I wouldn't hunt it down or anything.

Awful
pedro-santa20 January 2008
One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Completely ridiculous. The story is bad. The animations are completely childish and displaced. The physics of the holograms are hilarious from how much they are completely wrong. OMG, I even wanna believe that this film has Disney label on it. Yuck. The actresses are somewhat beautiful, but there are so many good films with astonishing actresses that are far more valuable to see than this one. Final remark, bad film. Don't bother to watch it. If you're looking for films to see with your kids consider other alternatives like Ratattuile, Monster Inc or an Enchanted Story (on theaters). Seriously.

Disappointing.
turtlepaw881 July 2006
I found this movie to be disappointingly lacking in plot, therefore losing its appeal to me. The lip-syncing is so terrible I find myself muting the singing scenes. And if Loretta is a good dancer, then I must be an expert. And I suck.

The special effects were decent enough, but it was by no means able to make up for the plot--or lack-thereof. Ricky and Leah did the best performances, but it is my opinion that the rest of the movie was dragged down by Spencer Redford.

So, in my opinion this is a movie that is probably turned off quite often.

Actually very good!
meowthew16 January 2004
This was a surprisingly good Disney Channel movie, despite the highly implausible storyline. For once, the characters actually have some depth and deal with serious relational issues. This is also the first Disney Channel movie in several years where the main characters are older than middle-school age (Roscoe actually drives!), which may be part of the reason for the unusual depth of the material.

Credit goes to Ricky Ullman for his excellent performance as Roscoe, a kid with serious fantasy/reality distinguishing problems. The character could have come across as either disturbingly weird or just plain silly, but Ullman approaches the role with a realness and sincerity that you just don't see a lot of in this sort of production.

The movie's depictions of being inside the Internet and the human brain are imaginative, inspired, and really rather thought-provoking. The visual-effects experience of director Mark Dippe really comes through very well in this.

The songs throughout the movie are fun and frothy, but don't be fooled -- there's a serious, emotional, raw undercurrent to the entire film that really sets it apart from most Disney Channel fare. A very good movie indeed.

A holographic rock star tries to sing lead for a band.
xxspicycoyotexx17 January 2004
This pathetic excuse for a movie doesn't have a decent structure or a sensible closure. The characters were confusing and the entire plot kept getting off track. I'd have to say that Pixel Perfect was a disgrace. This is what happens when you let Disney channel make movies.

Fun to watch with your child
chris_behanna19 January 2004
For the detractors, as MST3K has always advocated, "Repeat to yourself, 'It's just a show, I should really just *relax*.'

I enjoyed this movie, especially with my five-year-old son, who really likes the songs (he sings them while walking around the house). Of course, the typical five-year-old's penchant for watching a new movie meant that I watched this movie four times this past weekend, but I digress.

I concur that this movie is better than the typical Disney-TV-movie-a-tron fare. It's not groundbreaking cinema, but it does tell a story with a decent moral (albeit the moral is laid on thick, like mortar with a trowel), and yes, the acting is good.

I *loved* the search engine, as well as the depiction of being in Samantha's brain.

I don't like it anymore, and I will tell you why
femaleanimefan27 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The reasons why I don't like this movie are: 1) The plot made no sense. Roscoe makes a beautiful holographic rock star, falls in love with someone who isn't real, then ends up going with his best friend?! I am sorry, but haven't we heard that somewhere before? 2) This is minor, but the name "Sam" is really starting to get on my nerves. It says on here that her name is Samantha, but they call her Sam. Disney needs to take that name and SHOVE it right out the window. They use it WAY too much as a girl name. Pick better names.

3) The acting. The acting was okay but it wasn't the greatest. Ricky Ullman is one of the worst I have ever seen(actually I have seen a lot worse) but he is up there.

4) The kissing. Yes there was 2 parts where Sam and Roscoe kiss. Can you say wimpy? They were not cute, nor sweet. They were 1 second each and totally lame. They were like 2 8 year olds kissing.

Overall this film wasn't very good.

holographic lead singer
SnoopyStyle25 April 2016
Samantha (Leah Pipes) is struggling to make it with her band. The problem is that she's not a good lead performer. Her best friend Roscoe (Raviv Ullman) uses his father's holographic technology to 'Weird Science' a lead performer, Loretta Modern (Spencer Redford). The hologram can only exist indoors and they have to keep it a secret. They become a hit but Sam isn't happy with the new addition.

It's not that horrible for a Disney TV movie but that's grading on a curve. It's on the level of some of the other musical Disney TV movies. Spencer Redford is a bit stiff considering she is suppose to be this magnetic performer. Her character is too silly and too stiff. She's trying to be computerish. I'm also not loving the music although it's alright for teen girl rock. I have problems with the musical performances, Spencer Redford, and her character. Sam's bitterness is not endearing although she is a compelling character. Also the internet is made to be way too silly. To its credit, the movie does try to let Loretta and Sam grow as characters.

A very underrated DCOM with a familiar plot
lisafordeay4 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Pixel Perfect is a 2004 DCOM starring Leah Pipes and Rivil Ullman. A young teen named Roscoe is hoping to make it big with the music business. However when no one will hire the band that he formed,he decides to take matters into his own hands by creating a hologram named Loretta Modern(Spencer Redford). When she becomes successful his creation acts more like an actual person.

Overall this is a very underrated Sci Fi TV movie that reminded me of $imone with Al Pacino and Rachel Green where a disgraced Hollywood producer created an actress by using computer technology to create a hologram.

If you liked $imone then you'll like this.

One of Disney's best
papergirl7258 May 2004
This movie, to say the least, was one of the best I've seen the Disney channel make in a long time. It's a relief after all the "never-before-seen" episodes of That's So Raven and Lizzie McGuire we've all had to watch over and over. It's refreshing to see someone new. I'll admit, the flips Loretta did when she sang were very fake looking, but the whole story line was well communicated to the viewers. The makers of the film managed to get actors and actresses who weren't over-exposed, but still did quality work. Ricky Ullman did a spectacular job playing the scientific but cute and lovable Roscoe, and Leah Pipes displayed acting ability beyond anything I've ever seen from Disney Channel before. The emotion her character showed really did a lot for the movie. Overall grade: A

A great surprise!
MyOwnWorld1316 January 2004
When I first heard about this movie, I was sort of into it. It seemed ok, but I wasn't sure if I'd watch it. Then I saw a music video for Notice Me, and I really wanted to see the romance in this movie, so I decided to watch it. So I watched it and I liked it, but then it got to the end when Loretta, the holigram, goes into Sam's mind after Sam falls off the stage. I love every single scene after this moment. I was just so into it and so excited and I loved how they did Sam's imagination and everything and how lorreta goes into Sam's body so she can feel everything, and I just love it. I also love all the emotions that everyone goes through. I like some of the music too. I done like the beginning of Nothing's Wrong With Me, but it's allright. I hope to get the soundtrack.

Overall, I love this movie, the beginning is ok, but i get mostly into it towards the end. It's a great movie though.

Just Enjoy It!
Mitche3 February 2004
This is just a fun movie to watch. Forget that Loretta could never exist (at least not for a LONG time) and just lose yourself in the story of a young couple realizing what they mean to each other and in overcoming obstacles in realizing their dreams. It's also about a girl (hologram, actually) coming to terms with her existence, sacrificing herself to save another and making the best she can with what life dealt her. I enjoyed it a lot!

A great movie
purplegrundo27 September 2005
When I saw the commercial for Pixel Perfect, I just thought, "Ok...why not watch it?" Good thing I did, because I found it to be a great movie!

The songs were really good (and that includes the instrument music, too) and I did not get annoyed with the music videos, unlike some songs where you'd feel "oh god not again" when seeing the videos. Notice Me and Nothing's Wrong with me were really good. :D

She's not a really main part and all but my favorite character was Cindy, played by Tania Gunadi. Not a very important role, but well played.

The dances were not extremely good. And like another user mentioned, Loretta's flips were obviously fake.

Many Disney movies are like you totally know what's gonna happen, but here, even though it WAS predictable, it was not entirely as I guessed.

Overall, it was a great movie and the actors/actresses in the movie were really good. Cool, you should watch it!

The Best diseny film for tv
jmcgee-117 January 2004
Disney has made a lot of made for t.v. films. Some of them are good and some of them are annoying as heck(Cheatah Girls)being one.And this one is good.

There's something special about this one.It has great acting,a some-what original story, and good special effects. The girl who plays Rosetta is hot and so is the other girls. It was the perfect movie to hit this year and had a diffent stlye to the other disney movies. It's probaly showing us what's next to come of diseny channel movies. When I first seen the trailer to this I wasn't that excited. Now after finally seeing it,I wish I can hit myself for saying that.I was also shock to find out that the same guy who made this made Spawn.

If you like this, you'll enjoy these disney channel movies:The Jett Jackson Movie,Genius,Smart House, and Simone(not a disney movie, but Pixel sorta copied this in a way)

The scene in the rain
crlavelock23 July 2004
I have a small question for all of you. In the scene in the rain outside the hospital, was Roscoe actually crying? Or were those raindrops on his cheeks? I've always been kind of curious to see if anybody knew, since I've only seen the movie once. I'd like to write a letter to Ricky Ullman and tell him how much I liked the movie, but I'd really like to know before I send it if he was really crying so I don't sound crazy. I really liked that scene, and though I don't really know why, it kind of (cheesily said) moved me. It was really sweet that Roscoe stood by Sam even though she hadn't been very nice to him. Isn't that what every girl wants? A loyal guy friend who really cares about you? Please answer!

The Best!
carly287234 January 2005
I absolutely LOVE this movie. My favorite character in this movie was Leah Pipe's character Samantha. Leah Pipes gives an amazing performance, she was totally believable and put so much emotion into her work. I can't wait to see her act in other shows/movies. She has such talent, and is a very pretty girl too. I actually found my self feeling bad for her when her friend ignores her, also the end of the movie was sad. This movie has a great message: No one is perfect, and you need to accept people for who they are. This movie is going to air again Jan 11th and I will tape it so I can watch it anytime I want! I wish they would come out with a sequel, but if they do it MUST have both Ricky and Leah again.

This is the absolute WORST Disney Channel Original Movie I've ever seen. It didn't seem to really flow. I think that it's really stupid. Though the main character was really good looking, the whole plot was dumb, and the dancing didn't go along with the music.

Not one of Disney's best pictures.
Protest_The_Hero18 January 2004
I really was disappointed. Like many of my friends we're older and can't appreciate Disney movie's like younger children can. But I expected more out of Disney. They're credits, films, and shows have only gone downhill since the original Walt died. There is NO replacing him and his great creative ideas.
