If you're the average American moviegoer, Oh, No! Zombies!!! will not likely appeal to you. The production values are somewhat poor. There are no eye-catching special effects. There are no breakout performances. So, why do I call this movie "brilliant"? Very simple. It knows its limitations and works within them.
Of all the ultra-low-budget work I've seen (sometimes called "micro cinema"), Oh, No! Zombies!!! is my favorite. Granted, it doesn't approach perfection, but it also doesn't try to be something it can't possibly be, which I think is a common failure at this level. You get the feeling when watching this movie that the cast and crew genuinely had a good time when making it, which makes this a genuinely fun movie to watch. Memorable scenes include the transformation of one of the main characters into a zombie, the stare-off between the pizza boy and the lead, and the garden-tool pentagram.
Fans of micro cinema should definitely pick this one up. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
