Watch this movie as almost your last resort.
kooleshwar18 December 2005
the plot line of this movie offered great promise. it made me think a couple of stupid guys marrying some old hags that going to be funny, gross but funny. But like almost all recent national lampoon movies save for Van Wilder this movie lets your expectations down. That doesn't mean that this movie doesn't have its funny moments but those moments, and especially the end leave you with the feeling, That Could Have Been Funnier. the movie also lacks the bevy of bikini clad and unclad beauties that most national lampoons movies have. Nikki is a hottie though but she isn't enough to increase the ratings. all in all a good movie if you cant think of anything else, but it cant be called THE last resort, its like the movie you take before you opt for something worse like Jason X or something.

Pretty unfunny film that hardly made me laugh at all, with annoying performances, what happened National Lampoon?
callanvass9 May 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This is a pretty unfunny film that hardly made me laugh at all, with annoying performances, what happened National Lampoon?. All the characters are unfunny, and dull, and while the ending was kind of cute it was the only really decent thing about the film, plus while this film advertises Nikki Ziering heavily on the cover, she is barely to be found in the film, so that was disappointing. It also claimed it was raunchy, I was also disappointed in that department too, as it wasn't that raunchy at all, and it's pretty poorly made too, plus while I enjoyed Chris Owen as Sherman in the American Pie Films he wasn't very good at all here. Louise Lasser and Renée Taylor are fun as the Mundt's but it's not enough, and thankfully it's only over 80 minutes otherwise it would have been unbearable, plus while I usually enjoy stuff like this this just wasn't funny. I can see why this hasn't gotten all the harsh reviews, and National Lampoon really seems to bringing out crappy movies lately and this is one of them for sure!. This is a pretty unfunny film that hardly made me laugh at all, with annoying performances, and I say avoid it!. The Direction is pretty bad. Gary Preisler does a pretty bad job here with OK camera work, but keeping the film unfunny throughout!. The Acting is terrible and not very fun at all. Will Friedle is OK, but wasn't very funny, he had good chemistry with Chris Owen, but didn't really make me laugh, and was rather annoying at times. Chris Owens was funny as Sherman in the American Pie films, but here he is the exact opposite totally unfunny, it's not really his fault cause the film didn't give him much to work with, still I was very disappointed. Louise Lasser and Renée Taylor are good as The Mundt's, but that's about it, they still managed to keep the film somewhat bearable though. Nikki Ziering is gorgeous, and the film advertises her heavily but she hardly has any screen time at all, and was wasted, I was incredibly disappointed. Rest of the cast are equally as bad. Overalll avoid it!, what has happened National Lampoon?. * out of 5

wow National Lampoon's has gone downhill,, this one wasn't that great,, yeah you had some laughs and crude humor,, not enough skinny young girls running around,, this time we get to broke loser guys who don't wanna work,, they decide to marry these old grandmas,, thinking that they are loaded,, turns out grandma 1 and 2 are both broke,, and they wanna marry the boys so they can collect the life insurance money,, and there you go,, I won't spoil what little is left in the movie,, I really felt like I was ripped off by the cover on the DVD box if you're gonna put hot chicks on a cover,, then I wanna see them in the movie,, so yeah i'm probably not gonna watch this for another 15 years or so, terrible movie,, only the laughs make it a 2 instead of a 1

How did this movie get to Europe?
KSiggaard21 May 2006
This is the most awful film I have ever seen.

Here in Denmark, where I'm from it called "Golddiggers", at the cover of the DVD-box you see "Shermanator" from American Pie and some other guy.. And a lot of Hot chicks. In the movie you see 2 Z-list actors read some bad jokes, while trying to score some seriously old females.

This movie is worse than bad and the cover is more than just plain misleading. Go walk your dog or make love to your girlfriend instead of wasting time at this.

If you are a really really really lousy actor, then see this film and get some confidence.. !! :D

Didn't hate it, not bad, seen worse!
Robert_duder29 April 2005
Warning: Spoilers
National Lampoon's has been around a long time. Animal House, the vacation series, perhaps even Van Wilder was when National Lampoon films were on top and raked in the cash. Now they seem to hit below the belt with cheap straight to video films that are usually a home for TV actors and actress' to go to make some cash. Kudos to them. Doesn't make them less funny just less popular. GoldDiggers or LadyKiller as it's known on IMDb was a cheap, slapstick, good for a chuckle, a little comedy. It won't blow anyone away or stick around for classics reruns.

The story goes like this...two best friends who grew up in an orphanage together and basically continually get handed a bad dose of bad luck in life try and come up with a scheme to change their luck. After their first couple of ideas turn out very badly, they find themselves in the company of two older ladies who appear to be very wealthy. The brainier leader of the two friends, Cal, hatches a plan to marry the two sisters and when the croak they will be heirs to all their money. Unfortunately what they don't know is that the two sisters don't have a penny. Their Uncle stole their entire fortune from them and now they are plotting to marry the two friends, insure them and then kill them. So the two pairs secretly set traps to try and knock off the other two. Unfortunately they all backfire and end up taking the wrong victims. Finally in a last ditch effort all four of them try to blast each other and discover that they are all trying to kill each other. After that the four of them hatch an all new plan as a team to break into their Uncle's mansion and steal back the sisters' family fortune.

There are some really funny knee slapper moments at the start of the film and then a real lag in the middle. The true heart of the movie comes when the two sisters played by Louise Lasser and Renee Taylor, team up with their much younger husbands played by Will Friedle and Chris Owen. The four of them make a hilarious comedy team and all of them are actually quite talented comedians. Will Friedle is a far cry from his Boy Meets World (horribly annoying) character and he's actually funny and his comedy is well timed and his expressions are classic. Teamed up with Chris Owen, The Shermenator from the American Pie Series, you have a comedy team genius...for a low budget film. Despite the few humorous sexual scenes with the elderly ladies, the jokes stay remarkably out of the toilet which is unusual for a comedy let alone a National Lampoon's comedy. They also force and I mean brutal force the Lampoon's necessary breast shots into the film...they have no bearing on the film and yet they manage to write it in. They stick out...and not in a good way. Nonetheless it's not a bad film and probably worth seeing if you're just looking for a stupid, fun movie. Averagely done. 5/10

Tasteless and not even AMUSINGLY tasteless.
igamer128 November 2005
Some friends and I were at Blockbuster over the weekend. None of us could agree on what film to see. We decided that no one was in the mood for anything really heavy or intellectual. Just some stupid movie to have a few laughs and possibly a few beers to. All of us had seen the really Obvious comedies or big films that you rent from the new release wall as defaults when you're in the mood to just watch some film that you don't have to think about with friends. So we saw the box for GOLDDIGGERS and thought "there are hot chicks on the cover, that kid from American PIE and BOY MEETS WORLD are in it. Its a national lampoon film. I'm sure it will provide some amusingly crude dick and fart jokes and occasional shots of tits and be on par with EURO-Trip as one of those utterly stupid films that you can just pop in and let your brain rust, chuckle occasionally, and kill an hour and a half of your night."

Seriously, this film makes Eurotrip seem academy award worthy. The screenplay isn't even worth picking apart. It is failed joke after failed joke after failed joke. And then, it becomes entirely disgusting. And not Cameron Dias with Cum in her hair SOMETHING ABOUT MARY disgusting where its FUNNY. this was just disgusting.

The basic premise of the film is that these 2 young screw ups try to seduce 2 elderly women. You can already guess how disgusting the sexual interactions already are.

And I wasn't expecting much from this film. I was really looking for 2 things: 1. Boobs. 2. Laughs.

1. The boobs were old and disgusting and by the time it got to cuter girls, I was already thuroughly disgusted 2. Few and far between and mostly at the fact that I actually shelled out 4 dollars to rent this piece of theatrical donk.

So note to all: don't bother renting stupid comedies that you've never head of and are shorter than 90 minutes or star c-list actors. Generally, there's a reason you've never heard of it. Did this even get a theatrical release? I would hope not.

Some scenes will crack you up and are very funny
the-movie-guy17 September 2004
National Lampoon's Gold Diggers is a black comedy about two losers in their twenties, Calvin Menhoffer (Will Friedle) and Leonard Smallwood (Chris Owen), who are out to get the good life without working for it. The two young men try to rob two 70-year-old sisters, Betty Mundt (Renee Taylor) and Doris Mundt (Louise Lasser). The two sisters beat the two young men up, and send them to jail. The ladies drop the charges, and invite the jailbirds to their Beverly Hills mansion. Cal gets an idea that they could marry the women for their money and live the good life. Hopefully, they will only live 6-months and at most one-year. It turns out that Betty and Doris are broke, and they have come up with a plan to marry the boys, kill them, and collect the life insurance money. After several unsuccessful murder attempts on each other, they join forces to rob Betty and Doris's rich uncle. This film is funny, and you will laugh through the entire movie. One of the funniest scenes is what the women are wearing as they walk down the staircase to meet Call and Lenny. (Delfino Entertainment, Run time 1:27, Rated PG-13) (5/10)

Never heard of this one? Good
ericstevenson28 June 2018
On RottenTomatoes, this film is ranked as one of the worst movies of all time with 44 negative reviews and zero positive reviews. It seems to not be that well known of a film seeing as how there's only 18 reviews here (well 19 counting mine). It's amazing that we have such a massive number of National Lampoon movies and most of them (especially the later) are horrible. It's gotten to the point where I've seen so many awful comedies I don't even really care anymore. This movie's plot has these two guys who marry these old ladies thinking they're going to inherit a fortune. They plan to kill each other.

I sincerely do want to see everyone dead by the end of it. We get these two scenes where a murder attempt kills these two guys. Gee, I wonder what happens in the next scene with another failed murder attempt? Another guy dies and by being bitten on the crotch, how highbrow. 30 minutes into the movie it appears as though the old ladies die and it honestly seems like we'll have a new interesting plot. Too bad, it was all just a dream and we have to deal with the further idiocy of this film.

I recognized Will Friedle in live-action as he voices Ron Stoppable from "Kim Possible". It's easy to say this is the worst thing he's ever been in. Much of the movie's humor goes through how these old women want to seduce these young men and it's as disgusting as it sounds, especially the whipped cream scene, which I don't want to elaborate on. These characters are such idiots as they throw away lemonade that they think tastes good...for some reason? I just know that after saying when life gives you lemons, she'll say you kill someone. I wish Mike Nelson had seen this as I couldn't see how anyone would stomach this more than "Little Nicky". 1/2*

Could be worse, but could be much better
guyfromjerzee16 November 2005
First of all, I'd like to establish that the outrageously beautiful Nikki Ziering doesn't play a big part in this movie, though she's plastered on the DVD cover. But hey, what's going to sell the movie better? An outrageously beautiful woman like herself or two old ladies? Luckily, if you rent the unrated version, you will get the see her topless. I'm guessing they CGI'd a bikini top on her for the theatrical PG-13 version, because she seems to be topless in all but one scene in the movie.

All film aesthetics aside, the problem with "National Lampoon's Gold Diggers" is the fact that it's about two young guys who have to marry, wine, dine and copulate with two old ladies. That's just disturbing. Not funny, just disturbing. I found the scenes where the women each engage in sexual roleplaying with the young men more gag-inducing than funny.

Other than the distasteful premise, the movie is written and directed in an amaeteurish fashion. I'm guessing the National Lampoon's franchise has taken a huge nosedive, ever since "Christmas Vacation." We went from "Animal House" to this? I probably look at comedies in a more analytical fashion than most people, and many of the gags are badly executed. Surely, I've seen much worse, but the comedy still never rises above direct-to-video standards. And of course, there are some cheap gags involving things like old people farting (Wow, that's soooooo original). If you're an old person, I suggest you don't see the movie, because you'll probably be offended. Like most movies aimed at young people that have elderly characters in them, the elderly are portrayed in a purely stereotypical fashion.

The cast is not bad. Louise Lasser has certainly done much better films than this (she was great in Todd Solondz's "Happiness"), but I'm sure it's harder for her to get decent roles in her old age. When I found out Will Friedle was in the movie, I was really afraid, but his performance is actually pretty decent in this movie. I guess as he matured with age, his comic timing has improved. I couldn't stand seeing him on "Boy Meets World" and in that awful comedy "Trojan War" (made even more awful by his hammy performance). Luckily, he's gotten more subtle with his comedy, and he manages to deliver some funny lines in the movie. Chris Owen, on the other hand, is virtually comatose in his performance. He seems totally bored throughout the movie. Maybe he's just not cut out for starring roles. He was good in his supporting roles in movies like "American Pie" (as the infamous Sherminator). I don't remember the actor's name, but the black guy who played the preacher was pretty damn funny, and steals in the show in the few scenes he's in.

"National Lampoon's Gold Diggers" is not as bad as I thought it would be, but I wouldn't rate it as a must-see. And for the guys, you may want to keep your finger on the rewind button during the scenes with Nikki Ziering.

Most Hilarious National Lampoon Film Ever!!!
shominy-491-65235516 March 2015
We just saw this movie and laughed and laughed and laughed from the very beginning 'til the very end! This is absolutely the funniest National Lampoon movie ever! Not only is the film's premise hilarious, but the dialogue (esp. between Chris Owen and Will Friedle) is absolutely a riot! This film isn't crude or gross like so many films today - it relies on real comedic situations for huge laughs! Louise Lasser and Renee Taylor were excellent, too! (BTW, the old, scratchy silent movie the ladies show the young men in their mansion's theater room is beyond hysterical!) The editing is perfect - not a dull moment in this movie! We are definitely buying this DVD!

Another bad movie, that I love for some reason?
ryangalicia81817 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
National Lampoon's Gold Diggers was good, and I do understand why everyone does hate it, but not THIS much.

When I look at movie posters it really looks interesting and always makes me want to watch it. This poster was really descent, but the ratings and reviews was absolute terrible. So I thought to myself, this movie doesn't look bad so I went to check it out. It DOES have a lot of bad errors (the big snake scene, some of the fantasy's, and the ending).

But still its good, but don't expect too much out of it.

This movie is a hoot!
waannief17 April 2005
I am 40 years old, a mom of four and I laughed my butt off at this movie!! If someone looks to this film for the old style National Lampoon quality, it's true they may be disappointed but its a new time and this film uses fresh faces and a fresh approach. Will Freidle is hysterical(esp. in the hard candy scene) and Chris Owen actually shows some promise as an actor. Finally proving he is more than just a unique set of features. I'd enjoy seeing more of Freidle in films. I think this is a good little dark comedy that won't be looked at as art by any means, just good fun. The veteran actresses steal the show. They really know how to keep the lines rolling. Will Freidle can finally say that he has outgrown his television start and is ready for the feature big-time.

A great escape from reality!
masschaos2 April 2005
I thought this movie was witty when they weren't gratuitously attempting levity. I laughed my @$$ off sometimes, but yes I can see how this movie would be agonizing for many people, but it was in no way as horrific as many recent lapses in film-making, and a lot of those weren't panned by "critics".

The casting left a lot to be desired, but Will Friedle (I wish I could move my eyebrows independently, very effective) clearly stands out from the rest in this movie, as does Chris Owen.

I know a lot of "critics" panned this one, "Too juvenile/stupid." "a horrific piece of film-vomit." I admit it's not a buzz-worthy masterpiece, but not all movies are aimed at Oscar glory. Most movies are supposed to be entertaining breaks from reality. Some people like em, some people don't; movie critics seem to have forgotten that, and try to force overly-critical opinions down our throats.

This is a good movie
nu_eu_am_comis_pacatul_o21 January 2007
This movie is quite good, except for the ending. It has very funny characters and very interesting actors. I enjoyed watching it and I honestly tell you that everyone that says it's not a good movie is either full of envy or just doesn't know to appreciate a quality picture. I laughed and I laughed and I gave it a 10 vote because I consider the producers have done a very good making this film. I like it because the humor is very spiked and the script has very beautiful twists. It's an excellent comedy, if you like watching good actors playing spectacular roles. The old ladies are not actually that old in reality and the other actors knew how to play their part into making a masterpiece.

Well worth a rental on a dull night
wgeddings12 March 2006
I'm a 43 year old father in a small Southern town. Just saying that so you will understand that I am not the target audience for this type of movie. I ignored it at the theater and had no plans to ever watch it. However, after enjoying National Lampoon's Dorm Daze, I figured I would give it a try at the rental store. I am glad I did.

The previews and such are not entirely truthful about this movie. It appears to be 2 young guys out to scam 2 older women. While it is that, it is also 2 older women out to scam 2 young guys who are some of the dumbest criminals ever. The "old women being sexy" angle is not played up nearly as much as you would think and rather than make fun of them, they seem to be making just as much fun of stereotypes.

This is not an Oscar movie or one with long lasting deep plots but it is a decent way to laugh on a rainy day. You will not split your sides laughing but the pace is good and the jokes funny rather than silly most of the time. While this is not a movie I am sorry I missed at the theater, and perhaps not one I will go out and buy, it was one that I enjoyed watching and felt well worth the rental. Just because the cover and premise seem so silly, don't just pass it by.

My god this movie changed my life it is made of god and win.
titaniumtiki10 June 2006
Despite the bad reviews for this movie, I found this movie momentous. The only way you can find this movie bad is if you are...jealous of Eric Matthews devilish good looks and dashing hair. He is the best actor to grace this Earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am appalled there is no golden statues or shrines devoted to this god amongst men. Breathtaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We should start a religion around this legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone who insults this movie is going straight to the fiery depths of Hell for insulting God's only son!!!! Also, they have no sense of humor!!!!!!!!!!!! This movie had it all drama, action, love, deception!!!!! Twists and turns that would engross any true movie fan!!!!!!!! People who give bad reviews don't comprehend the complexity of this one of a kind masterpiece!

It was pretty good, but not real good.
spam_the_great14 April 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Overall I enjoyed the movie a lot. I thought the characters and situations were funny. Has a little Nickalodian humor with an adult twist. One thing that I didn't like though is watching these old ladies all movie when there was a hot girl on the cover they were trying to advertise and barely even showed her in the movie. But that of course is a pretty lame reason to dislike a movie unless the cover is what help intrigue you into watching it in the first place. I got a lot of good laughs in this movie however. The absolute worst part of the movie that I think turns everyone off is the ending. No twist, no irony, just a simple "and they lived happily ever after" ending. If this movie had a better ending I think most people would score it higher. So if you just want some good laughs and don't care about crappy endings, this movie is for you.

Great cult comedy
daland-317 October 2007
A friend of mine had seen this film in the theater and told me it was hysterical. Not a "Lampoon" movie at all, but in a good way. It's more of a cult film, than a typical main stream "studio" comedy. I think a lot of the bad reviews come from people thinking they were going to see Van Wilder or Animal House and then comparing those films to this one. First off, this is clearly an indie movie with a very small budget. It looks great, but is still a small, contained movie. I thought the acting was really sharp all around. Louise Lasser is really brilliant in this. Whenever you see this kind of movie, it's always old men and young women, but this really turns that on its head and these women are not 40's or 50's, but really in their 70's. The film goes for it and you have to respect that (the wedding and honeymoon sequence is laugh after laugh). I'm sure some people might find the overall concept of 20 year old guys with 70 year old women disgusting and if you're looking for a Nikki Ziering romp with young girls, don't waste your time. It sorta reminded me of early Woody Allen ala Take the Money and Run or Bananas (wild, odd, insane humor). The scene after the guys mistakenly give poisoned lemonade to the gardener and he stumbles to his death in the background while they sit eating lunch talking about their respective sandwiches is bloody hysterical! When both couples enter their master bedroom from different doors all carrying shotguns and proceed to blow the bed to hell had me on the floor. Don't be fooled by the misleading marketing. This is a throw back, 60's-esque cult comedy. It's just plain funny, fresh and certainly different. Well worth the rental.
