Sex & Nudity

  • A woman lies fully nude on a hotel bed (we see bare breasts, then partial pubic hair as she rolls over). A nude man climbs into bed with and strokes her breast. They kiss and hug and talk about not feeling like having sex.
  • A drinking mug is shaped like a breast with the nipple as the drinking spout (it's called "little sipper").

Violence & Gore

  • A shark bumps into a man and a woman, the man drops his knife, the shark tugs on the man pulling him under water, he yells and says that he has been bitten (we see a chunk of his leg missing and the water around them becomes tinged red.
  • We see small gashes on a woman's leg, and a bit of tissue and blood floats in the water. She says random fish are swimming around it and nibbling at it. (we then see this as the man goes to check)

Profanity

  • 16 F-words, 4 scatological terms, 7 mild obscenities, 3 religious profanities, 34 religious exclamations.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • People are briefly shown drinking alcohol.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There's a severe presence of dread and doom throughout. The performances are top notch and accurately depict the panic and terror. Hearing their reactions to the events is largely stomach churning.
  • Off screen (in pitch black), we hear a man torn apart by sharks. He shrieks briefly before wetly coughing for some time, grunting occasionally. Extremely grounded and realistic.
  • A man goes into shock and a woman tries her best to comfort him. She then pleads desperately that he stay alive, dreading being left alone. Heart-wrenching.
  • A woman solemnly watches a bobbling torso for a few moments. The torso's surrounded by sharks underwater and sucked under with a *bloop*. Unnerving and, in context, heart breaking.
  • The movie is very frightening and intense. There's an atmosphere of threat and dread throughout, and it is very unsettling.
  • Many, many sharks circle a woman floating in the ocean.
  • A man and a woman scream and cry (on separate occasions) in frustration and terror when they realize they have been left behind in the middle of the ocean.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • A dead man floats in the ocean, we see his body bob under the water a few times and it then submerges and does not come back up.
  • During the end credits, we see a bloody dead shark on a fishing boat, its fins are cut off, its abdomen is cut open, we see intestines spill out, and a man pulls the contents of its stomach out (including a camera).

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A woman sleeps while floating in the ocean, a shark bumps into her waking her up, and she panics when the man she was with is nowhere in sight. It turns out he's still alive and close by, but before this is revealed, the scene is very intense.
  • In several scenes, many sharks circle and splash near two people floating in the ocean -- they panic and are very frightened. A woman awakens while floating in the ocean and panics when the man she was with is not with her.
  • Lightning flashes as a storm moves in, a man and a woman float in pitch-black water and panic when they hear splashing around them, but cannot see anything; a shark rubs against the woman's leg, the man screams (he is bitten by a shark) and we see him floating unconscious.
  • A woman submerges herself and does not come back up.
  • A character is killed by a shark and another drowns.
