Nice blend of styles
mcfische10 April 2004
Perhaps this is a bit early for reviewing the series; there have only been three episodes so far; but I quite enjoyed Butch Hartman's latest series DANNY PHANTOM. He definately wanted something different from THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS. This show is a blend of action/sci-fi cartoons, teen shows, and the wacky, whimsical, unpredictable humor of FOP. It pulls off quite nicely. Each of the characters shows promise, and Danny, Sam, the principal, and Danny's dad have already endeared themselves to me. The action scenes are well-animated and the character designs are nice, if in the mould of FOP. All in all, quite a well-done piece of work. Keep up the good work, Mr. Hartman!

Great Ghost Show for Boys
blbbg130 October 2007
Danny Phantom is a very good show, The characters are cool and the show is just great. Who would of knew a show about a ghost teen could be so cool and interesting. It's got a lot more depth than The Fairly Oddparents, thats for sure. It's a shame it was canceled after 53 episodes, oh well I can't wait to see what Butch Hartman's next show is. Check it out on Nick when you get the chance. I really wished Butch would've gave DP another season, this show as well as My Life as a Teenage Robot was canceled earlier this year. Why does Nick always cancel the good shows. Anyways, check this show out and after a few episodes, you'll be hooked and will want more.

The BEST new animated series in a LONG time
daisyfh11 November 2004
I have to throw my two cents in with the crowd on DANNY PHANTOM. This is one of the BEST new animated series in a long time, and has quickly become my favorite animated show.

Unlike most animated shows that seem to exist in some kind of vacuum (each episode has nothing to do with the other), DANNY PHANTOM has a continuing storyline. The story gets better and better with each episode, and yet at the same time, each episode is great standing alone. Kudos to the writers for that.

The characters themselves are funny, interesting and quickly draw you in to their lives. Kudos to the actors for this.

I love the Danny and Sam storyline, and at the same time the ghost villains are some of the best villains in animation today.

The animation style is wonderful as well. DANNY PHANTOM is definitely one of Nick's best. Butch Hartman has done it again!

Danny Phantom
jadusdraconus-113 July 2006
I have to admit it. I'm a Danny Phantom addict. i'm a 33 yr old father of three and my two sons (3yr and 2 yrs) and i watch this show every time it is on. The artwork of the show is superb when compared to many of todays, or the last decades, cartoons. The plot and storyline are excellent for the average teen or even young teen, and the lines are better than many of the adult intended lines from bugs bunny. Heavy with sarcasm, dry humor and a bumbling fathers exploits, this show rocks. There's enough reality based topics in the plot for any teen to relate to, and many adults will take great humor in the dialogue. I personally believe the show caters to a sense of family and friends, either group can benefit from this. Whether you choose to watch this with your family or sit back with your family, you'll certainly enjoy this cartoon. I'm proud to say i watch this.

A Great Show That Did Not Deserve Cancellation
lunadivinerradiance6 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
It's gong to be had to put everything I want to say into the small space I've been given, so here I go:

Basically, the show is about a 14-year-old boy named Danny Fenton who, after an accident with his parents' new Fenton (Ghost) Portal, becomes half-ghost. With his powers (super strength, flight, intangibility, invisibility, plasma rays and shields, a Ghostly Wail (sonic scream), and cryokinesis/ice manipulation) and help from his friends Sam Manson and Tucker Foley (and later his older sister Jazz), he defends his hometown of Amity Park from the ghosts that exit the portal.

I've been with this show from practically the beginning, as a five-year- old watching it back in 2004. Now a bit over nine years later, I'm 15 and still watching the show. The characters amused me, the villains, especially Vlad and Dan/Dark Danny, were creative and interesting, and the show had me hooked from the start. I wish it hadn't been cancelled back in 2007 (though I've heard rumors about a 4th season coming next year).

A very good experience
david-jaramillo27 May 2006
When I first started viewing the show, it did not seem very special or very interesting to me. It had a Spiderman Marvel like plot line for development and was pretty good. I did not get my true appreciation for the show until I started watching the show from the beginning. The Humor and animation are decent, but the show had real and constant character development. There was no straight plot line to the show, but there were unsettling factors that continued throughout the duration of the show. The character development was fast paced enough and occurred enough to get me hooked.

Good job Butch, hook line.

What was Nickelodeon thinking when they canceled this show?
asaloverboy731 December 2013
Plot: Danny Phantom, a 14 year old boy living with his parents in Amity Park. His parents are a whiz when it comes to sciences, dimensions, and mostly ghosts. They made a ghost portal in their basement leading to the border world also known as "The Ghost Zone" When his parents tested it, it failed. He went to take a look. When he pressed a button inside the portal chamber, something flashed! His appearance, DNA, has changed into a ghost-like appearance! Now he has the powers of ghosts. Amity Park is always attacked by a ghost, so he thought to be the defender of the city!

Characters: They have the same designs, mostly the enemies from The Fairly OddParents. The humans are designed just like Hartman does. Some of the characters' personalities are reused from Fairly OddParents.

Humor: Some good humor, some are also reused from Fairly OddParents.

Art: It's how Hartman does it. I like Butch Hartman's designs because it's so great.

Overall: 7. They should have collected a fresh new ideas for this show, but the action and a little good humor makes the show spark. They shouldn't have canceled it.

Doesn't even deserve a star
Saku_Tatsuya26 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I actually used to watch this show about a year ago for the mere reason that I heard it was made by the same creator as Fairly Odd Parents. At first, I thought it was going to be just as good. But after watching about fifteen episodes, I got sick of it. Thank god that I found this site to let off some steam.

First of all, Sukey graphics. No, it doesn't have to change into anime style but if Hartman is trying to actually make an action TV show, then the least he should do is add in more detail in the fight scenes. However, the whole crazy hair thing does resemble your typical anime style so yeah. But still, putting in "POW" and "PUNCH" doesn't make up for the action. He can at least put in some real fighting instead of sissy punches and kicks.

Secondly, the characters are really frustrating. Sam is a poser, Tucker is the friend person, Danny is your typical teen angst person. Jasmine is your stereotypical older sister. The dad is too much like Timmy Turner's to even qualify as being 'original'. The only tolerable character on the show is Danny's mom. She isn't downright stupid or annoying.

What frustrated me the most about this show is that it's just another one of your typical teen angst show about basically nothing important. Okay so there's Danny turning into a ghost kid and fighting ghosts and also faces teen problems. The whole teen angst part is not how teenage life really is. This is just another one of those shows that just make kids think that teen life will be all that when it is not. I used to think that teen life was like that.

As for the plot; there hardly is one. I've seen third graders come up with better plots for a story then this.

Best show I've seen in a while!
The_Perks_of_Being_Lincoln29 December 2005
Great Job, Hartman! You've have created another well put Nicktoon! Danny Phantom is probably one of the best Nick shows I've seen in a while! This show has a great cast with funny characters, wonderful but repetitive plots, great memorable villains like Skulker & Ember, & great voice casting with some of the best voice actors around Nowadays, Nick shows are just plain dull, boring, & stupid, but this show, along with The Fairly Oddparents & Spongebob Squarepants, this is truly a great show & I would recommend this show to anyone who loves a good cartoon. I give this show a 9.5/10!

I would describe this show in six words:

Funny

Excellent

Original

Stupendous

Hilarious

Lovely

Great Job!
blankspace5606 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
It was a typical Friday night. Homework done dogs fed etc. I was flipping through channels and came across a new show on TV called 'Danny Phantom'. I hadn't watched a show on Nick ever since 'Doug' and 'Ren and Stimpy'. As I watched it I enjoied the witty bantering, jokes and battles cries. The more I watched the more interested I was. The story of a 14 year old boy with paranormal obsessed parents, 16 year old'adult' sister, a tech obsessed friend and a goth friend gave the basic route of the story room for development. Though there is more. Danny Fenton is half ghost due to turning on the Fenton Ghost Portal while inside it. Danny names himself Danny Phantom and uses his ghosts powers to fight ghosts that are coming through the ghost portal and put them back into the ghost zone. Though all of the stories share the same idea each episode brings forth a new element to the show. The villains are well configured and have their own certain power which gives Danny a new challenge to conquer. Though the show is rated Y7 the jokes and the challenge to fit 'in' and the pesures of high school are more geared to the age of 13 and up. Over all the show is excellent and is the modern ghost buster cartoon teenager can enjoy watching. 10 fingers and 10 toes up!

The best show on Nickelodeon!
riomasu13 January 2007
I'll admit, I watched the premiere episode of Danny Phantom in 2004, and it really didn't make a super-awesome impression on me. Sure, it wasn't bad, but what I remembered the most is how much I didn't really like the theme song.

Although, I flipped through channels one day and stumbled upon it. Why not? It wasn't bad, per se, so I watched it. The next day, and the next, it turned into a habit to watch Danny at five-thirty. Soon I started to obsess; I loved the show more than anything on television. I still do! The characters make me laugh, the stories are really interesting (most; not everything's perfect), and the animation style is just awesome. Unlike so many of the shows on Nick, I can see Danny actually drawing in an audience of ALL ages. I love it (I'm sixteen.), my parents don't mind watching it with me, and I know little kids who love it, too. There are morals in the end, the hero doesn't always win, and the show portrays some of the real stresses of being a teenager. Why are they cancelling this? Danny Phantom has to be the best show they've had on the air for years. I didn't even watch the channel anymore until I got back into DP.

I think they need to realize that if the show isn't bringing in the ratings they want or the money that they want, maybe they should put it back in its old time slot and make some more merchandise that you can actually purchase in a store. (I've never seen any; I don't know about other places.) Hopefully Danny's run won't end this year. It can't be ending in February; there's not enough time to make that happen.

10 out of 10 for the ghost that I sure love the most. =3

One of the Greatest Shows in the history of TV.
mpearl42914 June 2007
Danny Phantom is one of the greatest shows Nickelodeon ever made. It is about a 14 year old boy named Danny Fenton (Voiced by David Kaufman) who has ghost powers and protects Amity Park and the world from evil as Danny Phantom. His Parents are professional ghost hunters and elminate any ghost out there. Trouble is that Danny is afraid if he tells his parents his secret they would rip him apart molecule by molecule. His Friends Sam Manson (voiced by Grey DeLisle) and Tucker Foley (voiced by Rickey D'Shon Collins) help him fight crime. Sam is a goth and Tucker is a techno geek. His arch enemy Vlad Masters (voiced by Martin Mull) also has ghost powers and hires ghosts to do whatever he wishes his ghost half's name is Vlad Plasmius. Vlad is smarter than Danny and has more expirence with his ghost powers than Danny does. So I think that Danny Phantom is a great TV show and Butch should have never decided to cancel the show.

This show rocks!
Musicgirl802515 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Danny Phantom is one of the best shows ever! XD It's got a little of everything: comedy, tragedy, sometimes some scary parts (The Ultimate Enemy, anyone? Evil Danny? Chain reaction?), and romance (power to the Danny/Sam fans! *shifts eyes*). It's also got killer music and some kick-ass enemies (*cough* Ember *cough*). I didn't expect to like it when I first saw it, but I'm absolutely addicted to it now! This is how obsessed I am: I can tell you the name of every episode, what the episode number is, and which enemies are introduced or return in that episode, and say which supporting characters, if any, are introduced. For instance, "Control Freaks" is episode 20, Freakshow the psycho ringmaster (who is actually human, unlike most of Danny's enemies) makes his first appearance, and you see Sam's parents for the first time. Overall, this is a pretty kick-ass series. Highly recommended! A-plus!!!

Not an Action-Packed Cartoon as expected.
twinklestars161 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Danny Phantom is the same person who created the more imaginably real Fairly Odd Parents. The story revolves around a guy who is half-ghost, half human, fights monsters and ghosts and still wants to live a Normal life with his two best friends, a sidekick and the individualist"-turned love interest. This is how you meet TeenNick with Ghostbusters.

Well, the idea of the plot seems too obvious, which basically involves a teen hero who tries to create a double life. Though real high school isn't exactly as angst-ridden and stereotypical as Casper High, nothing truly significant happens but fight ghosts and your usual 2000's Nickelodeon teenager scenes. Danny learns new powers a few episodes pass by, has arch nemeses, more love interests, and the fight scenes. That's about it.

The fight scenes were basically a lack of detail, limiting themselves to power shooting, gadgets, and the occasional punches. Danny doesn't apparently have the physical strength, but he can try to train himself both physically, and socioeconomically. Sadly, I usually think he rarely trains, just his new powers pop-up by ghost fighting just like that.

The Jokes aren't even funny. Awkward scenes here and there, maybe a random romance sequence between friends. The animation seems okay, but not enough.

The theme is apparently concentrating on a more Grim feel, but I just can't see it. The contents in the cartoon look too vague, and they just come from thin air.

The characters are also one-sided. Even their "unique" characters look too one-sided. Not much on character development there. The only decent person I see in there was Maddie, Danny's mom, who is the one who didn't look pathetic, and is apparently the sane one. Kudos to her.

Apparently, the character that actually needed to be deleted was Sam Manson. She was the type of person who has been asserting herself to become the "perfectly independent girl" to Danny, who just magically gets her anyway in the end of the series. She was technically a hypocrite and a poser, and most of the episodes see her as trying to be different, only revealing to be quite useless in times of need. (see Naruto's Sakura.)

In conclusion, Danny Phantom may be a good plot, but the cutboard characters and the vague details will just make it what it is. Butch Hartman needs to research more about the ghosts and the characters. That is all.

Comment Rating: 2/10 (Because a few episodes made good ranks.)

The Best TV Show!!!
carachloe24 November 2005
Danny Phantom is my absolute favorite show!!! I absolutely love this show cuz I can totally relate to it. I'm like Sam cuz i'm a girl, a vegetarian, I luv reptiles, I hate popular stuff, and no one except my best friend really understands me. I'm also like Tucker and Danny. I'm like Tucker cuz I'm really into technology. And i'm like Danny cuz my parents don't really understand me (don't really want them to either:^))Everybody can completely relate to at least one character whether it be a villain (:^D) or one of the heroes. I think that any kid that has ever watched Danny Phantom wishes at some point that they had ghost powers. I know that I did:^) You always hear about the superhero movies and TV shows, but you never really hear about a show based around ghosts. I seriously hope that Nickelodeon makes a Danny Phantom movie. Danny is the perfect age for a kid that got ghost powers. Since he's an adolescent, more people can relate to his everyday problems and situations. He's old enough to know what responsibility is, and he uses his powers the right way- most of the time:^) This show is kind of like a Fairly Odd Parents and a Spongebob mix- you have your "magical powers", mixed with your everyday strange and funny. When I 1st saw the previews I was like, this looks wicked stupid. Y7? What is up with that? But now I realize that I was being an idiot!!! Watch this show and learn the true meaning of what the BEST TV show means!!!

BEST SHOW EVER!!! Even better than Spongebob and FOP
cvetere511 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER WARNING!!!

Danny Phantom is the best show since... actually, I think it is the BEST SHOW EVER!!! Basically, 14 year old Danny Fenton receives ghost powers from the Fenton-Portal when he decides to look inside of it. (Sorry, I know it's from the theme song.) Anyway, he gets ghost powers and becomes...DANNY PHANTOM!!! He doesn't tell anyone for fear of being probed or dissected by his parents. (Although in Reality Trip they do find out and accept him, but then he wipes their memory with...long story.) His parents, Maddie and Jack, are ghost hunting 'scientists', and Jack is definitely bumbling. Tucker and Sam are his best friends, know his secret, and always have his back. Sam is an artistic goth girl who has a secret *crush* on Danny. And Tucker is a techno-geek and a meat connoisseur he is funny and always has his signature red beret, sometimes envying Danny. Danny's sister Jazz is 16 and overprotective of Danny, she also knows Danny's secret and now he knows that she knows. The characters are memorable, lovable, and hilarious. The enemies (my personal favorite being the Box Ghost:)) The animation is top-notch, and the storyline is easy-to-follow and it has the perfect blend of comedy, drama, and *romance*. I give this show a 999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999 out of 10. I have memorized all the episodes and have just recently watched an old show 'ren and stimpy'. I think it is garbage, junk, trash and other words like that, so I watched one of my many Danny Phantom episodes recorded on my computer(I recorded ALL of the episodes on my computer). I love Danny Phantom and I think it is NOT A COPY of Spiderman, GhostBusters, or any other TV show/movie. It is original and waaaayyy awesome. *danny is hot* (sorry, had to get that out of my system.) If you haven't yet watched this show, I highly, highly, highly TIMES INFINITY (sorry, that was childish;)) recommend it. And only 2 last comments:

BEWARE!!!

-LAST BUT NOT LEAST-

-GOING GHOST!!!-now and forever

Enthrallingly genius!!
Sanou_san14 June 2007
OK I don't care if I'm way old to be fascinated with below 13-year-old cartoons, but this one is hit for me. With the presence of our local TV station channel ABC, I've got a chance to watch this nice childish cartoon. My sister introduced me with this one when I'm used to lounge myself in the couch during our summer break, waiting for the next semester this cartoon cheered my interest to woke early in the morning.

Danny Phantom is about a boy who got entailed by his parents' weird invention, creating a space tunnel that would eventually link the normal human world to the creepy endless realm of ghost. The invention didn't work in first place because Danny's parents forgot to switch on the button located inside, Danny went in and accidentally pressed the button that triggered the Tunnel to emit some sort of ectoplasmic action, he's molecules got rearranged and turn him into a half ghost half human boy. Actually you will get the prelude of the story through it's opening song, it's nice—trust me, and way cool. And he got his only two friends Tucker and Sam who only knows his acquired ability, from then he realizes his mission to stop ghost from making their way out the tunnel, and capture as well spirits freely roaming their world and causing devastation or disturbance.

Danny's parents where dumb, as her sister always tell them as "Ghost hunting Freaks" but undeniably Danny's parents are true genius, but they appear to be Geek-Freak with their behavior. I love the dialogue, the wits, the action especially, the foes, the twist and mysteries, the plot of the story, the music, and the supporting characters. This Nickelodeon cartoon has managed to be my modern favorite since Tom and Jerry.

Butch Hartman is a genius.
final_flight2629 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
There's a reason the (very few) people that don't enjoy the show have their reviews poorly rated on here... because their arguments just don't hold up. One of the top 5 best Nicktoons of all-time, without a doubt. Danny is a likable, witty character. He doesn't always win, and that's what makes him lovable. He deals with a messed-up family, getting bullied constantly, and his own teenage insecurities but still, in the end, remains a kind-hearted enough to focus on helping others, no matter the cost. He does slip up by trying to get revenge on bullies or making himself the Ultimate Enemy, but he learns from his mistakes and becomes more powerful by doing so, such as the pre-mature development of his Ghostly Wail superpower. That's the great part about this show--it has a moral along with being witty and smart, and he has his quirks and weak moments. One of the most three dimensional characters Nick's ever created. The only reason the ratings ever went down was because Nickelodeon moved it around and never built up hype with toys and such like they do with other shows. Wonderful, original show (how many other times half you heard of someone that can ~~~turn into a ghost/other supernatural creature and return to normal afterwards?) My two complaints are that everything works out ~~~too conveniently in the end, like someone showing up to save Danny's behind last minute or them always finding a way to erase the memories of anyone who learns of Danny's powers, and that Sam would probably be considered a poser. But it is a Nicktoon. Forever wishing it was back on the air, SSxx

Awesome! :)
Tahlia1019 November 2006
Danny Phantom is absolutely awesome. It is very well written as well as having a lot of humour, action and pretty good looking characters! (Mostly Danny ;]) I honestly cannot understand how Nickelodeon is cancelling this show. Danny has a huge fan base throughout the world and the show even lives up to its "sibling" The Fairly Odd Parents! Danny Phantom is a very good kids show as well as being appealing to teenagers and adults alike. Butch Hartman should be plainly offended that Nickelodeon wants to/is cancelling such an amazing show. If you are a Danny Phantom fanatic please go to this site: www.savethephantom.com and take action along with thousands of others. Help Save Danny!

How awful.
dumguy7777 April 2007
It's about time this show got canceled. The idea was good and all, but it was executed poorly. Nothing about the show was original, or appealing. The "action" was animated without tossing anything new (basically a couple energy bolts or a few lame punches was a whole fight), and the jokes were really annoying. I mean, if you're going to make an action show, add some "real" action with flying kicks and punches well laid out, and if you can't make funny jokes, don't try to be funny at all. Canceling this show is the first "right" thing Nickelodeon has done in quite a while. This show was lucky enough to have been aired as long as it had. Hopefully the people at Nickelodeon will improve their taste in quality over time. So, I'm a little happier now that this garbage is off the air.

Who ya gonna call? Danny Phantom!
mercy_angel_0921 December 2005
I came across this channel surfing one afternoon and became intrigued. This wasn't like other newer Nicktoons, this one was of the same quality of when the Nicktoons numbered three, Doug, Rugrats and Ren & Stimpy. "Danny Phantom" comes from the mind of Butch Hartman, the same guy who brought us "The Fairly Odd Parents."

Danny Phantom revolves around the life of fourteen-year-old Daniel "Danny" Fenton, his ghost hunting parents Jack and Maddie, his sixteen-going-on-thirty sister Jazz who thinks she's an adult, and his two best friends: Tucker, resident techno-whiz loudmouth, and Sam, a free-thinking, ultra-recyclo vegetarian Goth girl. Dealing with the normal trial and tribulations of being a freshman at Casper High is hard enough. Dealing with the abnormal trials and tribulations of being half ghost freshman at Casper High only makes thing worse.

The series smartly combines the ordeals of high school (like the mystery meat in the cafeteria, frog dissections, and wanting to be part of the "in" crowd) with the supernatural super hero story of average teenage boy must save the world from those who wish to see is blown clear to the Ghost Zone, not to mention he'd rather be sitting at home playing video games or hanging out at the local water park with his friends. A liberal sprinkling of pop culture references, parodies, and romance only add to the charm and wit of this show.

Fans of "The Fairly Odd Parents" may not find this show worth watching. Aimed at a slightly older crowd, "Danny Phantom" echoes the horror of going through that painstaking first year of high school, with embarrassing parents, overprotective siblings in the senior class, and mediocre grades to boot. Tweens, teens, and college students will most likely find this show interesting and amusing. Anyone younger than thirteen might not get all of the pop-culture references and jokes.

This is Ghostbusters for a new generation, and reminds me of many Saturday mornings spent watching my favorite New York ghost fighting team in action.

Here we go...
ZetTheLegendaryHero11 April 2018
Danny Phantom (from the creator of the Fairly OddParents) follows Danny Fenton, who after an accident in his ghost hunting parents lab, became half ghost. While in ghost form, he assumes the name Danny Phantom, and fights evil ghost using his powers and parent's technology. Jazz is his sister, Maddie his mother, and Jack his father. With the help of his friends Tucker and Sam, Danny tries to fight ghost and live a normal high school life.

There are plenty of good characters like Vlad, an evil ghost hybrid. Dannie Phantom, a female clone of Danny. Ember, an evil rock star ghost. And, the Box Ghost, a ghost that controls all boxes, just to name a few.

The show has great character interactions and is funny too.

A really AWESOME occult show!
ja_kitty_712 August 2007
I thought this was a really awesome show! And far superior to "Fairly OddParents." Sorry, but it's true. I love it, and I am also interested in the occult. You know: ghosts (the key theme for this show), vampires, and other ghoulish things.

I'd like to point out that the voice acting in this show is absolutely fantastic (this also applies to the characters). My favorite ghost villains are Desiree the ghostly genie and the medieval ghosts from the episode "Beauty Marked." Also, one last thing, I think Danny and Sam would make a very cute couple, even though they deny it. So, occult fans, I highly recommend this show for you to watch.
