Sur Sangam, musical tearjerker
mstopkar22 January 2006
This 1985 movie from K.Vishwanath would be remembered for some good performances and melodious classical music from Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Though Girish Karnad was misfit for the role of a music maestro, Jaya Prada did commendable job. But the small cameo of Sachin was really good. The highlight of the film was the music by LP. The songs sung by the great Mishra Brothers Rajan and Sajan, haunt you out of the theater. Lata Mangeshkar, Suresh Wadkar, Anuradha Paudwal, S. Janaki all lend able support to the classical music masters. The use of pure ragas like Bhairav, Chandrakauns etc. make you crave for more. The directorial touches like the music record playing a song during the rape on the heroine, though typically symbolic and attributable to the 1960's films, still is likable. The songs like Aayo prabhat sab mil gao, Jaau tore charan kamal per wari, Dhanya bhag sevaka ausar paya etc are rare gems. People may compare it to Shankarabharanam from South but that according to me is unfair. The era was of Himmatwala and likes. It was no wonder the film therefore bombed at the box office. But can anybody let me know why the music CD, VCD or DVD of this film is not available?
