One of the best art documentaries you'll ever see
deproduction15 July 2003
You start out laughing at Nate and Josh because they're so stupid, but after 90-minutes, you get reminded that their "naive" motivations and their tactless tactics are the way IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE, and the reason they look like idiots is because they're motivated by pure enjoyment of their "art" and not by the money and drugs and groupies that the rest of the world has been convinced is supposed to be the goal of the Rock Star. Besides being incredibly well-done and entertaining, this is a doc with a great DIYorDIE message. This isn't "just another untalented band" that "just happened to have a doc made about them" as many would believe. This is an unfortunately all-too-unique story that needs to be told.

Best Rock and Roll Documentary Ever
jasonsiques6 October 2005
This is one of my personal favorites. Nate and Josh saddle up for a tour of the West Coast in their orange Volkswagen Van with their three dogs and hilariously spaced out light girl Jenn. Here's the hook though. When they get to the club, they don't load the equipment out of the van and onto the stage, they simply throw open the side door to the van and start rockin'.

This is the ultimate rock and roll road movie about what being on the road is really like. Friends Forever are poor, young, and passionate, but also self deprecating bozos. As they travel from town to town, setting up in parking lots and on the street, we meet a ridiculous cast of truly eccentric characters that act as a support network for the band.

Incredibly enjoyable and totally quotable, you'll find yourself spouting lines from it to your friends and the opening music will haunt your dreams.

This band (and documentary) single handedly brought the word awesome back into fashion without anybody realizing. And that's how I would describe this documentary, AWESOME!

Its kinda like a highway on a highway on a highway

This movie absolutely rules balls and is one of the best movies i have ever seen. My throat hurts right now from laughing so hard as these guys are some of the most original artists i have ever encountered on film.

Some of the shots taken during their journey across the country are nothing if not breathtaking. And their genius views on a rock n roll dream gone awry are inspiring and devastating.

The cast of characters that pitch in along the way are among the most fringe contributors to a non commercial art scene that you'd ever encounter.

I can't say enough about how much balls this film rules.

Great piece of work that adheres to the senses and emotion!!

Friends forever combines the true emotion, intelligence and a journey into the search for creative raw performance and into the lives of two, with a passion for music and oddity. Thus, capturing every piece imaginable and providing an abstract canvas of odd characters driving extreme distances to perform only one show for a few people. Wofinsohn, delivers this emotion by taking to the road for eight months, documenting their madness and mayhem. But what's interesting, is how he controls the mood and the consistent pace so that your emotions are drawn to Josh and Nate. The interest never seems to retreat from the screen and each chapter has you more involved than the last. I found myself very intrigued by Wolfinsohns' work, and am surprised at how talented his work is, being his first full length feature. What he seemed to accomplish, is that you don't have to be a music lover (considering the band's music doesn't really carry a tune anyways) nor favor documentaries. It's real people and it's talented.......it's how a documentary should be made....
