Superb Anniversary Special
LindaY14 March 2006
Talk about something I wish were on DVD! I treasure my audio copies. This was a February 1978 special celebrating the CBS network's 50th anniversary. Instead of cramming it all into four hours as NBC had done in 1976, CBS spread it out over a week: two hours on Sunday, two and a half hours on Saturday, and an hour on each of the weeknights. Each night celebrated series that were famous on that night (LASSIE and ED SULLIVAN, etc. on Sunday, I LOVE LUCY and MAUDE, etc. on Monday, etc.) and then they would have other features about news, sports, special events, etc. They even talked about the radio era, especially on Sunday's outing. The parade of stars at the beginning is very nostalgic, because many of those people are gone now. How about it, CBS? I'd settle for a plain vanilla version just to see it all again; this one doesn't need extras--it IS an extra!

A Classic Week

This was one of those mini-series that brought back fond memories for me. Imagine a whole week of highlights of classic CBS shows and seeing all the great stars that graced that network. This was a wonderful look at the shows that I grew up with and I'm only mad that I didn't record it because of the fact that I love shows like this. This really brought back some fond memories.

Best Anniversary Special There Is! Hope It Gets Released on DVD ASAP!

Warning: Spoilers
Sure there have been a lot of specials out there. But this one has taken the cake. As it has about a lot of your favorites that you grew up with. A lot of them are now gone to the "TV heaven." While some still live. CBS had their 50th anniversary in 1978!

Yet this is what TV was all about. As CBS aired these for seven nights in a row for their 50th Anniversary. Most specials now a days try to cram it into four hours like the NBC 50th anniversary someone on this board has mentioned.

CBS went all out with nine hours, a whole week when it originally aired on March 26th-April 1st.

At the end, all the stars about 120 of them, came out in a black tie affair to wish "Happy Birthday" to CBS 50th! In the end, when the credits roll up, they had the stars in the old CBS building. To see if you can name them in reverse ABC order.

Hope CBS will have a heart to release this on DVD as a lot of people would love to see this. Those that have seen it and would love to see it again. And those that want to see it for the very first time.

This is what made TV awesome. And CBS indeed was THE Tiffany Network at the time. Not like the junk you see on TV these days.
