My friends' high school student films were better
anarfea4167 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This is absolutely the worst movie I've ever seen, including the ones my High School drama class made Junior year. It seems like there's some kind of government plot to get everyone addicted to drugs, except that maybe all of them are actually inside a video game, or maybe they only think they're in a video game because they're addicted to drugs.

There are also lot of painfully bad and completely unsexy sex scenes, including a visit to an "S&M Club" which featured bad music and a couple of people desperately trying to look edgy, as well as a completely gratuitous rape scene that neither advances the "plot" or develops either of the characters involved. The graphic content may explain the terrible acting and earplug worthy dialogue that I expect even a porn producer would have been embarrassed by, but none of it is worth fast forwarding for.

I watched this movie sober, and some people might say it would be better if you watched it on drugs. I suspect, however, that it would only be a waste of a trip.

One of the worst Sci-Fi movies ever
WestPassion759 November 2003
Warning: Spoilers
...... POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD ......

This movie is a major mess as far as a sci-fi movie goes. I generally love a great majority of sci-fi movies. The only sci-fi movie I remember being this bad was "Future War" which ranks near the top of IMDB's worst films list. Not only is Narcosys incredibly lame and slow-paced, it's downright boring to the point of suicide. The characters are ALL annoying as they can possibly be. The acting is beyond terrible throughout the movie, even as far as indie features are concerned. The CGI effects are entirely laughable recalling late 1980's technology on an Amiga system. The camera work seems as though a pre-schooler was given free reign of the camera. The editing is so haphazard it's not even funny.

The plot never makes much sense or really goes anywhere. There's scenes that can't possible have any redeeming value to any sort of script. A party scene near the end of the film goes on for quite a few minutes just showing rave dancing, no breaks to other scenes at all. Ever hear of deleted scenes or AT LEAST shortening scenes down for time? I think the makers of this movie were all stoned on some tainted weed.

I guess this tried to be a really poor man's version of "The Matrix". Don't get me wrong...I like quite a few Aussie films, but this is so bad I wouldn't even recommend it to my worst enemy.

Here's how the promotional materials explain the movie: "Featuring incredible visual effects and dazzling action sequences, Mark Bakaitis' groundbreaking sci-fi thriller is a must-see for fans of the genre."

Groundbreaking? What was groundbreaking about this pile of junk? Incredible visual effects? Perhaps to a blind person. Dazzling action sequences? Gee, if you don't fall asleep from boredom first! I'm sorry I had to view the movie in it's entirety, but I always give even the worst of films the chance to redeem themselves to the very end. Unfortunately, Narcosys is so utterly terrible that it doesn't even deserve that chance.

This horrible thing should be illegal
tafoxman9 September 2007
I would have checked 'spoiler' but this movie has nothing to spoil.

Supposedly a sci-fi flick, the closest it ever comes is incredibly outdated graphics that look like they were created on a Commodore 128 (that are supposedly profiles of the characters, though you never see who is looking at them.) PC-generated shuttles flying around with no purpose is the only other thing even close.

If there is a plot, I failed to see anything resembling one. Acting is non-existent (i.e. the whole cast was overpaid if their lunches were bought for them) and the backdrops, sets, and camera work are horrible.

I recommend watching this if, and only if, you want to completely waste an hour and a half of your life.

Half a Decade of Malevolent Memories
megiddo-11 February 2010
Usually, when I watch a bad film, I simply forget the entire experience with the passage of time.

For some reason, this movie stands out in my mind, five years on, as one of the most horrible film experiences I have ever had in my adult life. I still remember watching it vividly. By comparison, the depths of its quality were not plumbed even by "Dead Noon", a film which resulted in actual physical violence on my person.

I find it surprising that others here could recognize a plot to criticize. I was so confused, perhaps terrified, by this film that I perceived no discernible plot. I found myself both confounded and surprised when the credits began to roll.

Cyber-punk at its best
yazlaw121 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Keeping in mind that this was a low-budget film and most cyber-punk genres have no real heros, this film was good. The story had a good concept; a monopoly corporation called the IT corporation has enslaved society by making them all drug-addicts. They have legalized drugs in order to make society and crime better, but instead have them them worse. They have turned society into a wasteland enslaved by the corporation's drugs. Now the corporation has put contaminated drugs into the streets in order to wipe out their black market competitors, without regarding or knowing the side effects. The acting was very amateur and the characters were at times annoying. No one was really a hero; all were drug addicts, committing crimes to get drugs and money. The visuals were good at times and great at times. Although it was low budget, they used fog, strobe lights, and lighting fairly well. The greatest part is that we never really see the puppet masters, those that run the corp. If you even look closer, you will see elements of faith, loss, and a will to survive, even in a wasteland. In conclusion, if you love cyberpunk, industrial music and have an appreciation for art, this film will not disappoint you.It will confuse and annoy you at times, but it is sure worth a look.

Indy diamond in the rough
mackatucker9 August 2020
Wow gotta say this was pretty epic for Indy standards back in 2000. No wonder it won the Melbourne Underground Film Festival! And to think some of the themes are reminiscent of a pandemic. I think Bakaitis was ahead of his time. Clearly put some of these actors on the map too. Some parts remaindered me of Bladerunner. Nice.
