Sex & Nudity
-
- Yes this is educational, but parents should know, that although non-sexual and within purpose, some of it could be gratueous. We see some beautiful women's breasts uncensored. This is not for kids to see, at least not alone. This is an adult-oriented documentary. Much like UPN, A&E was cutting edge in being very permissive of uncensored content.
Violence & Gore
Profanity
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
-
- Some drinking, as Paris socialites did in the 19th century, especially in the restaurant and plaza parts.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
-
- The whole documentary is fairly intense. Themes of isolation, social stigma, and the effects of isolation are a part of this documentary. It's not for kids to see alone.

Violence & Gore
- In one episode, we see the Franco-Prussian War of 1871. It's not graphic but we see some dead bodies (but it's not overt, and most of it is in the distance, where it can't be graphic). The story of one of the artists dying is sad.
Profanity
- In one episode, when Du Galle (or whoever the artist was) enlists in the French military to serve the country in the Franco-Prussian War, his boss gets mad about this and says, "piss" and "shit" in anger towards him. Nothing super explicit. PG-13 though.
