One word: quotability.
mousiee22 April 2005
This game is SPECTACULAR for many many reasons such as the massive number of enemies to whallop and excellent bosses with a practically unrivaled character selection (c'mon, who can beat four giant mutant ninja turtles?), but the winning factor for me must be the quotability. Think about all the things they say in the game that you repeat over and over again, even after you stop playing.

E.g. "Pizza time!", "Ohh, shellshock!", "Big Apple, 3 a.m.", "My toe, my toe!", and others. Great quotability makes this game most excellent. Basically, even if you don't enjoy kicking foot soldier asses and throwing them at Shredder, or even fighting with DINOSAURS (isn't that awesome?), you can still enjoy yourself by quoting it over and over again with your friends and then laughing about it uproariously.

Turtle Power!"
jerekra25 April 2009
Keep in mind that for this review I will be reviewing this game for the Super Nintendo System. I have played the arcade version but only a few times, I feel that reviewing it for the SNES is more fair since I am not an authority on the Arcade Version.

You play as any of the four turtles, Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo, or Raphael. Shredder and Krang steal the Statue of Liberty. In order to rescue the statue, the turtles are sent through time to different time periods and have to fight your way through enemies to beat each level. Each level has a different boss at the end.

This game is lots of fun. For one thing, it can be a one or a two player game. So you can have fun playing it by yourself or with a friend. Personally I think this game is much funner if you share the experience with someone else, but it is fun by yourself as well.

The controls are very simple and easy.

The main enemies you fight, foot soldiers, are not that tough. So this game is quite easy even on the difficult setting.

ALso what makes this game great is that all of the great turtle enemies are in it. KRang, Shredder, Leatherhead, Metalhead, Rat King, Baxter Stockman, Tokka, Rahzar, Bebop, Slash, and Rocksteady. That is great because you get to battle against all of the enemies that were in the show as well as in the films.

Each turtle has its strengths. Leonardo is well balanced in weoponry, speed, special, and defense. Michaelangelo has pretty good speed and great weoponry, but his defense is lacking. Raphael has great speed but his defense is lacking also. Donatello has a great weopon and special however his speed is bad. So each turtle has advantages and disadvantages.

So this is a very simple and highly entertaining game. Highly recommended.

GREAT AND FUN GAME!
armyofdarkness36 July 2001
This fun is awesome! This has to be one of my favorite games to play with the sound up really loud. I love the gameplay. It may be easy at some points, but it's fun no matter what. Nothing wrong with it being a little easy either. I love the way you can throw the foot soilders towards the screen. That's one of my favorite things to do. It's cool how when you fight shreadder that you have to try and hit him with the foot soilders. I so wish they could make a game like this one for systems today. A game like this in 3D would be the coolest thing ever made. However, 2D still does work fine for this great and fun game. 10+ TO ME!

For all you big TMNT fans also, i am so excited that they are making yet ANOTHER TMNT movie! It's going to be fully computer animated (like the new FINAL FANTASY movie) but what's better! is that the famous, and great action movie director JOHN WOO is writing and directing it! For all you fans, especially for me, it's the best thing ever. To have a great story that i loved since i was little to be made by one of the coolest film makers i've ever seen! keep an eye out for it

Ninjas Lost in Time
hellraiser71 September 2022
This is another of my favorite video games of all time as well as favorite beat em ups of all time. This is a second entry to the first game and it's great in fact I feel it's even better as like with all great sequels takes things a step or two further than before. I was a kid from the 90's and Turtlemania was just about at it's peak at that time, after the second live action move this came out, it was a big surprise for me as I honestly didn't expect it to happen and sequels for video game franchises weren't quite a norm yet, let alone didn't always happen. However, there weren't any advertisements of a second arcade game in the works, so you can easily image how people who are fans of the Turtles or even just beat em ups must've felt seeing this game for the first time. Most importantly this game showed that the beat em up genre was here to stay.

I remember playing this at the video arcade in "South Hill Mall" in Puyallup, WA, this game was a big hit as there were plenty of people that crowded to play this game. Even took a few friends with me to play this game so they can play as the other characters, and we would have a full campaign like the Turtles. You can imagine how much fun we had, pretending to be the Turtles playing that game, bringing the beat down on the foot clan, and going on crazy colorful adventures.

Plot of the game is solid it's what you'd expect if your familiar with the 80's animated show, making this game feel like one big episode arc for the show. Krang, Shredder and his bunch are as usual up to no good and have a big scheme that "Carmen Santiago" would be slightly envious of , where they take over most to all of "New York City"; but then begin their conquest of the world by controlling all of time and of course it's up to the Turtles to stop them. That's pretty much it, it's colorfully simple but I like there is some amount of intrigue as you go along as you see a new cut scene as you clear a level and the brief amount of ongoing content really game the game the feel like you were still watching the show or even reading pages from the comic series. It also makes sense there would be this plotline as they didn't want this sequel to feel like the same old thing, they been though New York city so an adventure in time would be the next logical step; let alone the Time Travel genre was still a bit thing from the 80s and 90s decade, from the TV show "Quantum Leap" and movies like the "Back to the Future Trilogy" and "Waxwork 2: Lost in Time".

Graphically presentation is great as it's pretty much the same with the original arcade game but there are a few improvements, I like that the expressions are a lot livelier and there is a bit of voice acting if not much, which enhances the cartoon feel of the game. From the turtles pulling off a move where they look angrier or even getting hurt like the most infamous line "My Toes, My Toes!", yeah seeing one of the turtles getting hurt, hurts me as it means my chances of advancement and winning are reduced.

Gameplay is the same which is fine as I wouldn't want it any other way, one of the things that make this game stand out is in its combo system which is a lot more fluid than before but also some of the finishing moves you do. Two of my favorites which are no surprise are when you throw a foot soldier toward the screen; I thought that effect was super cool as it sort of breaks a fourth wall you see that foot soldier flying toward you and even going so far is to impact the screen where you saw some animated glass cracks. Again, you can probably imagine how people were blown away by the effect, really made the action feel real for a moment.

Another of course is where you grab someone one handed, and you just swing them left and right making them eat pavement. It was so cool that pavement impact sound is just music to my ears, you really felt you were making an impact and doing damage to the baddies. That move was parodied in the independent movie online "Kung Fury" There are also powerup and one which you could say is the equivalent of the star from the "Mario" games is a pizza power box, with this the Turtle you play has momentary invincibility as he spins like the "Taz Manian Devil" and destroys everything in sight.

I really like the designs in levels each of them has a different theme and feel, but also there is a bit more variety as you don't always go from point A to B but in one level you sewer surf and in another there are hover platforms. Even like that the baddies contribute to the variety, much like the Turtles toy line in each level there are always a few new players and each correlate to the theme of the level like Foot Solders riding velociraptors or sewer surfing. And of course, there are the bosses you have some familiar faces from the first game whom each have a new trick, but you also have new ones never in the first game which is cool as the Turtles have a long roster of rogues from Leatherhead, The Rat King, Tokka and Razor and many more from Turtles lore.

And there is the music, this game has some of the best video game tracks ever that are replayed and even played at parties to this day; some of these I play whenever I work out. They each feel true to the spirit of the franchise but most importantly generate excitement that just sings out Turtle action.

This vintage classic is a shell of a time for fans of the Turtles, Beat Em Up genere or even non fans that want to try something different or rookies to both things. Nothing left to say but Cowabunga dudes and dudettes.

Rating: 4 stars.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time is a excellent game and a true classic
Terryfan9 August 2006
This is in my opinion the greatest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game ever made.

Me and my brothers always played this game all the time.

This game is a great game for the Super Nintendo.

One of the games that made it worth to own a Super Nintendo.

The game play is excellent and the game allows a lot of replay value.

The Music is very catching.

The story is great. When the Shredder begins to start a evil plan to control time, Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Raphael and Donatello have got to story the Shredder.

My favorite line in the game is when a turtle gets hurt and goes "Ow, my toe, my toe".

The graphic are very good for a super Nintendo.

Controls in the game are very good.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Turtles in Time is a classic.

Overall, if you're looking for a classic and if you're a huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan then this game is for you.

I give Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 10 out of 10.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rocks!

Those were the good old days
BinaryCode10011 May 2003
When I was little, I used to play this game a lot...but now, the SNES is outdated, and PS2s, Xboxes, and GameCubes are in. This was actually one of THE greatest games of all time! But, for some reason, once these "next generation" consoles were developed, starting with the PSX, developers started forgetting about these side-scrolling brawlers. Can someone PLEASE tell those developers to re-locate their roots!
