Good Intention and Research, Bad Screenplay
claudio_carvalho3 September 2006
Jurandyr Passos Noronha wrote and directed this documentary with the good intention of paying homage to the greatest Brazilian comedians. His work of research was amazing, collecting footages of the following movies: "Acabaram-se os Otários" (1929); "Alô, Alô Carnaval" (1936); "E o Circo Chegou" (1940); "Berlim na Batucada" (!944); "A Dupla do Barulho" (1953); "Malandros em Quarta Dimensão" (1954); "Rico Ri-à-Toa" (1957); "Chico Fumaça" (1958); "Pega Ladrão" (1958); and "Dona Violante Miranda" (1960). Therefore, regarding intention and research, Jurandyr deserves a ten.

Unfortunately, the mainstream that connects the segments is simply awful, with Paulo Silvino, Rafael de Carvalho, Roberto Guilherme and Santa Cruz being wasted in silly roles and screenplay. Eleven years later, in 1982, Carl Reiner made a similar work, using footages to pay homage to the film-noir with his excellent "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" (1982). The title of this Brazilian movie in IMDb is inaccurate ("Cômicos… + Cômicos"). My vote is four.

Title (Brazil): "Cômicos… + Cômicos" ("Comics…+ Comics")
