La Llorona ('The Weeping Woman') delves into the Mexican tale of the same name, and investigates through fragments of image and sound and encounters with this character of oral tradition how myth possesses the power to frighten, protect, and provide guidance to those who share in its transmission. In revealing the anguish, condemnation, and reconciliation La Llorona embodies, the film cites the importance this everchanging narrative possesses to all who learn of it and convey it.

La Llorona received Honorable Mention in the Short Form film category in the 1999 Arizona International Film Festival, during which it made its world premiere. It appeared during the festival's opening night celebration, on April 15, 1999, and also during the Cine Chicano screening on April 17 and April 24, 1999.

La Llorona was also accepted to the Images Festival of Film and Video, in Toronto, Canada, and screened in the student film showcase on April 26, 1999. La Llorona screened as part of the ¡Festival Cinema Latino! in Berkeley, California on Saturday, September 25, 1999.

La Llorona appeared in the 1999 Mill Valley Film Festival on October 9, 1999 in San Rafael, California. It preceded the feature film, Espiritu de mi Mama, by director Ali Allie.

Other festival acceptances include: Saguaro Film Festival, Scottsdale, Arizona April 1999; Cine Las Americas, San Antonio, Texas-June 1999; Cinequest 11, San Jose, California-2001; International Student Original Film Art (SOFA) Festival, Watsonville, Oregon-2001; Cinesol, McAllen and Harlingen, Texas 2003.
