Hey, World, Liberate THESE!
NoDakTatum19 October 2023
This faux documentary was released to capitalize on the runaway bestseller "The Sensuous Woman" by the pseudonymous "J." Written and directed by one of Jayne Mansfield's ex-husbands, it's a goofy hoot. Narrated by a breathless Lindis Guinness, the sixty-five minute film tells American women that they need to step up their sexual game if they want to compete with the more sensuous and looser foreign-born women for the American male's attention. If only our country wasn't founded by the Puritans, whose belief system was somehow ingrained into the American female psyche all of these generations later...one example of the suspect science at work in the film. Because most American women lay around all day, without employment or children to worry about, they should use things around the house to explore their bodies. One hilarious sequence involves a woman caressing hideous late 1960s decorous items like a lamp and that sexy vase. Sensuously rubbing yourself with an apple is funny enough, but choosing assorted vegetables to insert into other orifices besides your mouth -watch out for that radish!- is both hysterical and gross. The hardcore sex scenes are not sensuous at all, and filmed in the name of "instruction." The uncredited cast of women go through the mechanical-like motions. A couple of women sport ill-fitting wigs, one of which almost falls off during a sex scene. Another sex scene is difficult to watch because the couple looks angry at each other, and Matt Cimber's camera may have captured the beginnings of a physical altercation. In an interview, Cimber indicated that he wrote and filmed this as a lark, and was sued. The director was triumphant, the film was a smash, and Cimber is correct: the film is a lark, and a relic. "The Sensually Liberated Female" is also known as "The Sexually Liberated Female." Feminists would probably protest this as misogynistic, but honestly it's funnier than a lot of mainstream comedies on your streaming services right now.

Surprisingly effective sex education porn
lor_16 October 2015
I haven't liked the films of Matt Cimber, but Vinegar Syndrome's DVD issue of his early white-coater "The Sensually Liberated Female" is a happy exception. After 45 years it is still arousing and interesting, with surprisingly informative commentary.

Sexy Lindis Guinness, who also fronted for a poor white-coater specimen titled "101 Acts of Love" narrates usefully, giving quite useful information as film based on a best- selling self-help book attempts to instruct women on achieving orgasm and some sort of '70s sexual parity with men. She appears at beginning and a couple of other times on screen, looking mighty sexy.

But the content is strictly MOS documentary style porn with a large variety of women, some quite attractive, many wearing very fake platinum blonde wigs, doing both soft-core and hardcore sex for a starving cinema audience. I give Cimber high marks for delivering the goods, while his other XXX films and those of the competition circa 1970 are usually bait & switch exercises that dole out penetration shots only occasionally.

In an interview included as bonus on the DVD Cimber stresses his tongue-in-cheek approach, but again I was surprised at how the film plays it straight 99% of the time. Sure, there are risible moments, such as a couple humping (soft-core) in the back of an open truck/van, plus the rather ridiculous sequence of trying various vegetables as masturbation dildos (no sillier than a number of Joe Sarno movies on that subject) but most scenes are prurient in a good sense - designed to get a male viewer up or to give quality suggestions to the female audience.

Later in the film the great early husband/wife porn team of Pete Dawson and wife Jan Davis (always wearing a crummy wig) hump for real and even demonstrate anal sex explicitly, which is a rarity for the time and not usually a feature of white coaters. I had just watched them in an incest picture made later ("Brother/Sister") so they were easy to spot amidst an anonymous cast.

Hysterical parody of white coater crock docs
Woodyanders14 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Writer/director Matt Cimber pokes wickedly witty fun at the basic educational white coater crock doc that uses the premise of being "educational" basically as a flimsy excuse to expose oodles of bare distaff skin and depict sexual intercourse in all its graphic glory. Posh Brit-accented Lindis Guinness makes for a suitably sultry and attractive hostess as she guides us on an eye-opening tour of female sexuality and the female body. Among the subjects covered herein are fellatio (use the tongue and be careful with those teeth!), sunbathing, bubble baths, belly dancing, self massages, sodomy, masturbation (one lady pleasures herself with such vegetables as a carrot, a cucumber, and even a radish!), and pelvic exercises done to increase sexual stimulation. Naturally, there's plenty of nudity from a decidedly mixed bag of gals. (A bunch of guys go full monty, too!). The bouncy lounge score keeps things bubbling along. Considering that some of the subject matter touched upon includes such ridiculous stuff as fondling lamps and getting intimate with an apple, it's obvious that Cimber isn't taking this silly tosh seriously for a minute. An absolute hoot.

Entertaining "Documentary" for "Women"

The Sexually Liberated Female (1970)

*** (out of 4)

I ended up watching this Matt Cimber film after viewing his HE & SHE, which was also released in 1970. This film here is certainly the more entertaining of the two as this one here claims to be a sexual education for women, which includes various "studies" including the best way for women to turn themselves on and the best way for them to pleasure men.

THE SEXUALLY LIBERATED FEMALE is basically an exploitation film that is "protected" by claiming to be for educational purposes, which is quite laughable. The only thing more laughable is that this here was aimed for the female market, which it clearly wasn't. The film is certainly quite erotic and there's no question that this was aimed to really appeal to the raincoat crowd and I'd be willing to bet that 98% of the people who bought tickets were males.

Cimber throws some humor into the mix, which actually works and the non-stop narration isn't nearly as annoying and dull as what was seen in HE & SHE. The film also goes into much more hardcore territory as there are non-stop close ups of the women masturbating with a variety of objects ranging from simple dildo's to a variety of vegetables. There are also some hardcore sex scenes towards the end of the movie. If you're a fan of exploitation or 70s porn then this here is a winner.
