Interesting Look At Billy
claybo7611 March 2002
This fascinating TV special about Billy Connolly's adventures in the Arctic shows more insight into Billy's personality than the beautiful landscape. There are some moments where he is alone, talking to a camera, and we get a sense of how he sometimes likes being isolated and enjoys his solitude. Quite interesting for a man who comes across as being so extroverted.

There is one part where he groans about the rest of the crew joining him during the day. He says its so peaceful and tranquil until he hears the sleds and noises of the others arriving. He almost comes across as a bit of grumpy hermit, but this doesn't make you love him any less. He is still entertaining, and he is still funny. There are some glorious scenes of nature and interesting trivia as well. Recommended if you want a nature show with a difference.

Billy Connolly: A Scot in the Arctic
Prismark1018 January 2024
If Michael Parin kicked off the trend of celebrities on their travels. Billy Connolly might not be racing around the world but does his own take as a comedian going somewhere unusual.

It does not get more unusual that the Arctic, well maybe the Antarctic.

He goes up far north of Scotland decked with polar clothes that he brought from shops in London. Only to be told that the clothes are suitable for a London winter. Here he needs to wear sealskin to survive in the extreme cold.

Although accompanied by a camera crew, there are several days where it is just Billy and a video camera. The camera crew left him alone.

Billy seems to be enjoying being solitary, playing T-Rex songs with a banjo. He is armed with a shotgun in case a polar bear fancies a Scotsman for dinner.

The documentary became famous for Billy prancing naked around the Arctic circle.

It was mildly interesting. Billy was an engaging personality. I think it was overpraised at the time of broadcast back in 1995.

Pretentious rubbish

Warning: Spoilers
1st thing 1st i love Billy connolly and his previous travel documentaries have been interesting. This however was a complete waste of an hour. What did we learn... Sled dogs fart and pooh, its cold in the artic, its solitary in the artic (although he did have camera crew most of the time) polar bears eat seals and its a dangerous place to be...so nothing new. Afraid to say that its a stinker... Much like the dogs flatulence 👎👎👎
