It's essentially the same film Georges Méliès made many times before and after.

I love the films of movie pioneer Georges Méliès. They are charming and very innovative for the time in which they were made. That being said, I also realize that he also had some shortcomings as a filmmaker...most notably that he remade the same sorts of films again and again and again....and again. The most commonly repeated films are Méliès posing as a magician (something he had been in real life) and doing his tricks for the camera. While this one isn't one of those, it' is one that I've seen about half a dozen times or more....and that is a person whose clothing seems possessed and he cannot get dressed.

When the film begins, a man casually awakens from bed and begins to dress. Each time he puts on an article of clothing, it changes...such as his pants turning into his jacket. This goes on again and again and the film ends.

While this is a cute idea, I don't recommend you watch each of these films...they're all pretty much the same. Innovative for the time but just not very original after you've seen so many.

Tough Morning

A man gets out of bed and begins to dress, but his clothes begin to change. As he pulls on his pants, they become a shirt. His boots become a hat. His shorts become a jacket. Once again, the visuals keep the audience satisfied. Nothing new here for those who have viewed a number of these films. That's fine though. It is one intense minute of entertainment.

An amusing film.

Warning: Spoilers
It's amusing as I said above. A man get's out of bed to catch a train. But when he puts on his clothes they just keep changing into whatever else. He puts on a shoe and it turns into a hat. So he puts the hat on his head and it turns into a blazer. Eventually he decides "Aw, screw it." and he gets back in bed, now evidently unaware that there was kind of a train he was supposed to catch. Probably was a bad thing to forget but whatever. What I find strange is that he never really looks surprised at the clothes for turning into other things. Maybe this has happened before. It's another good Georges Melies film. It's far from being his best, but it's definitely not his worst.

How He Missed His Train (1900)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

aka Le Reveil d'un monsiur presse

Hilarious film has George Melies getting out of bed in his pajamas and he must rush to catch a train. As he's getting dressed all of his clothes start to take the form of something else, which causes a problem. We've seen plenty of films from the director that deal with clothes taking different shapes but the jokes here are wonderfully done. He will go to but on his jacket but it'll turn into his hat. He'll go to put his hat on but it'll turn into his boot. He'll go to put his pants on but it'll turn into his jacket. Melies is so relaxed and comfortable on the screen that he pulls these jokes off very well. Truly a delightful film.
