I had two DVD over the immortal novel "Grande Sertão Veredas" from the great brazilian writer Guimarães Rosa, the first one produced by already extinct Vera Cruz, which l must talk about and an overlong mini-series produced by Globo TV that l saw just small parts, this one is too compressed picture in one and half hour to telling so extensive novel, so they made the best efforts in that production which no make justice for too remarkable and complex story, Vera Cruz brings to Brazil the most advanced cameras, technical apparatus and a large crew from overseas to becomes a South Hollywood but after a dozen pictures was bankrupt, many things shall explain such thing, probable maybe not worthwhile to talk about of sad happenings, now back to the picture the Brothers Santos Pereira and the producers decided to focus on main subjects from the book, wasn't a proper masterpiece who many claims but is good enough for commercial purposes, sadly the picture is in bad conditions in both sides sound and picture, needs a utmost restoration, but has a problem to solve before it, there are a enough interest by the market restore it expecting a fair results?? with sorrow l have to say probably not!!!

The movie was shoot at the location of Lagoa Formosa (MG-Brazil). I happen to be born there, and so it was one of the highlights of my childhood seeing all that people engaged in that cinema thing. I also happened to become a cinema enthusiast from that time on.

So, this copy I've just got, on DVD but without any changes, nor repairs, shows this Brazilian classic from 1965, directed by the Santos Pereira brothers, based on the novel of Guimarães Rosa "Grande Sertão:Veredas".

A controverted history of love of Riobaldo (Maurício do Valle)and Diadorin (Sonia Clara).

Thanks for whoever had that great idea of having this movie digitalized.
