Anyone else still love this movie?
joshcardinal-0812312 July 2018
I'm an adult but I get songs from this movie stuck in my head allllll the time. As a kid I wanted to dress and act just like Zenon and live in Space and honestly it sucks that we don't? Anyway, great kids movie for all ages, good message without being saccharine, this is my favorite DCOM ever.

fun movie

Warning: Spoilers
A real good time of a movie. Kirsten Storms as Zenon makes for a memorable Disney Channel character, especially since I can't seem to stop quoting her for the life of me. Raven did a fine job as her friend. Stuart Pankin is top notch and born to play his part. Holly Fulger had a great character. Zenon's parents were not bad. Proto Zoa kicks butt. I thought the transition from Space to Earth was very good. You can't expect the Disney channel to come up with the best effects, but the ones in this movie are pretty good for the channel. The directing is good. The writing I loved. I know I only gave it a 7, but what do you expect? It's still a good rating. If I ranked it for strictly Disney Channel purposes, I would give it a 10. The score is also good. The songs involved are pretty nice. I like the set pieces. Classic Disney Channel right here.

The ultimate grounding
bkoganbing17 September 2015
It will be interesting in the year 2049 to see if the future world predicted in Zenon: Girl Of The 21st Century is actually here. At this point in time many science fiction future films have fallen short of the mark. Don't mean they're not good entertainment and this one from Disney Studios certainly is.

Kirsten Storms is in the title role and Zenon's a bright and spunky child who with her family is on a traveling space station that has explored a lot of the solar system and beyond. But she suspects something is amiss with millionaire Frederick Coffin and his sleazy aide Bob Bancroft who have endowed a lot of their money to the project. In these films the hero/heroine always has good instincts.

Her good instincts uncover a plot to destroy the space station itself with a computer virus during the first outer space rock concert by a futuristic David Bowie named Proto Zoa played by Phillip Rhys. Do you doubt that our resourceful teen saves the day? All of course after the ultimate grounding of being kicked off the station back to the home world.

Zenon: Girl Of The 21st Century is one of the better Disney television films and it was popular enough to spawn a sequel. Look for a nice performance by Raven Symone as Storms's best friend who runs interference for her. And Coffin and Bancroft are a pair of villains like Captain Hook and Smee.

Get caught up in Zenon's world
Realrockerhalloween7 September 2016
Back when Disney produced quality movies and shows Zenon rocks. You can't help being engrossed in this fabulous world and wanting to explore it more. You find yourself hiking the catchy songs and before you know it embarrass yourself in front of your family.

The clothes seem a little over the top and yet seem like updated 90s fashion. The unique vocabulary only a genius could come up with add humor and its fun to try to guess what they are really saying. The casting was perfect and even features two actors before they became house hold names.

The story can give you a sweet tooth from trying to be to sentimental at times, but a good pick up is needed once in awhile. While the sequels don't hold a candle to the first, I find them a guilty pleasure to enjoy once I grow tired of the first and suffer from with draws. Zenon is a real treat for those looking for an escape from reality and visit a less complicated time. Get it on DVD today.

strange, but decent

I was surprised to say that I actually enjoyed this. Although it was a cheesey, teeny-bopper flick, I found myself cheering it on. I found myself feeling as if I were 13 again.

Regular... Well regular and simple...
RosanaBotafogo3 December 2022
Regular... Well regular and simple... In the year 2049, teenager Zenon lives on a space station with the rest of her family. After she has some trouble with the stationmaster, Parker Windom, she is banished to Earth. After a few weeks of adaptation, Zenon gets help to return to his home with evidence that the "respectable" Mr Windom is corrupt.

Because watching this little film, I was completely distracted, in a total distraction, it's not bad, however it's so silly that it needs a minimum of attention to consider it accessible, and there are two more in the sequence, let's go strong... Well regular and simple...

Don't Be Ashamed
aleara_cerridwyn13 July 2006
This movie came out when I was maybe, 6 or 7 years old. I fell in love with it, and the sequel "Zenon the Zequel." Truthfully, after a while I outgrew the Disney Channel, especially once the DCOM started to get beyond corny. However, Zenon game out in the "golden age" of DCOMs. Is the movie a bit unbelievable? Yes, of course it is. Is it cheesy? Yeah, the lingo makes you cringe sometimes. I watched the movie again last night though, and realized that this movie has something that the recent DCOMs doesn't: good acting. Kirsten Storms is amazing as Zenon, with her insanely expressive eyes. She works as hard as she can to make the words she's saying not make you laugh, especially the 7 odd times she exclaims "Ceedus Lepeedus!" As of last night, I've decided that I shouldn't be ashamed if I still like this movie. The clothes are hilarious, since in the future we apparently have flashbacks to the 80s, and same with the words (Stellar, etc). This movie also has a plot that you can't predict right away. When Lutz puts the disc into the Class 4 system, we don't know what he's doing, and neither does Zenon. And the idea of "grounded" meaning being sent to Earth is brilliant. Overall, this movie is a bit hyper and a bit corny, but it's one of the few DCOM that I've watched recently that actually has a somewhat believable plot and great acting. So those of you around my age: don't be ashamed if you still love this movie. It's much better than being in love with High School Musical.

wow... 2049? like thats going to happen...
joemcpeaches28 December 2004
i have to totally disagree with the people before me.

for one,Kristen Storms(?) cant act for her life. i am 13 and i watched Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century when i was like 9 and I still successfully HATED it. really, the plot goes nowhere, the characters are pointless, and the "cool and futuristic" language is really lame. sorry to pop your bubble, folks, but the whole movie is pointless.

and not even entertaining pointless, stupid pointless! maybe it could be considered a good movie just so you could laugh at its insane stupidity.

the best part of the movie either is the insane costumes or the ending song, zoom zoom zoom. definitely the song-- ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM YOU MAKE MY HEART GO BOOM BOOM MY SUPER NOVAH GIRL! definitely the song.

it would get a one, but the song upgrades it to a two.

This Show Works. . .but, Why?
Web-72 July 1999
"Zenon" aired on the Disney Channel earlier this spring and was, to my surprise, one of the best made-for-TV teen movies I have seen. True, the film is quirky, and its humor is effervescent; but its idiosyncrasies seem to add to the enjoyment, along with a story that is strong enough to contain its own silliness. The movie draws you in unexpectedly and, as an adult, you will probably think to yourself at some point in the show, "I can't believe I'm watching this - AND liking it!" I think the appropriate term here is "overbrain." The scenes are very well thought out, the acting is good enough, and the story matches with all the other elements to create that magical "likability factor" which makes the movie quite a success. Therefore, the behind-the-scenes overlords who wrote/produced/directed this film must have had - a brain!

On a lighter note, this film makes for a great drinking game [soda pop, please!] Here are a few rules to get started... 1. Whenever you hear "Ceedus Lapeedus" 2. Every time Greg strikes a pose meant to slay a young lady's heart. 3. Whenever you see Protozoa (two drinks), or hear one of his songs (three drinks) Big Unanswered Question: Didn't anyone else in the crowd know the code needed to upload the "undo" file??

Finally, no the movie should not be made into a TV series because the elements which came together to make the movie work would be very hard to capture week after week. However, if it does happen - Protozoa should marry a lead singer, she could be called - Amoeba!

A loving 5 Because I am not the target audience!
brandi-ferrell30 October 2022
I am currently watching all the old Disney channel original movies in order and it's Zenon's turn! In 1999 when this movie came out I was also a young teenager, but I'm not sure I ever saw this movie. Nothing about it felt especially memorable anyway. At first I was thinking this might be kind of like a Star Trek for kids, but nope!

I thought the acting was mostly fine and the young spunky kids were not terribly annoying. The little love stories were sweet. Overall storyline is meh. Harsh punishment from the parents, geeeeesh!

Some of the fish out of water stuff, bullying, and shenanigans felt a little forced and/or silly. I don't feel like the costumes/hair aged super well. It's supposed to be the future, but it feels very 90's. Also, Chelsea Clinton is president? That's so random!! Oh and I almost forgot!! All the future language stuff is annoying MAJOR! They kinda almost got viral right though...

If I were a kid watching this, I'd maybe give it a 7/10, but rated for me today I have to go with a 5/10. I have to say, I miss being crazy about boy bands!

Warning: Spoilers
While this was originally going to be a series, this is the first Disney Channel original movie to get a sequel. It has a great pedigree, as it was directed by Kenneth Johnson, who created The Bionic Woman and V*.

Stardate 2049: Zenon Kar is a 13-year-old girl who has been in so much trouble on a space station that her parents send her to Earth, where she has trouble fitting in with the kids that have no idea what pop culture is, all while discovering a conspiracy to upload a computer virus top the space station, crash it to Earth and collect the insurance money.

Hey - Stuart Pankin! Not only Bob Charles, the anchor of HBOs Not Necessarily the News and Earl Sinclair on Dinosaurs, Stuart shows up in all manner of movies, a dependable character actor that I love. He's Commander Edward Plank, the boss of the big space station.

They made two more of these movies about the plucky space girl - and Disney+ has them - so if this is your jam, get on it.

*He also directed Short Circuit 2 and Steel, but we don't talk of those movies.

Warning: Spoilers
Okay, so this "lunarious" movie is probably the best that was ever shown on the Disney Channel. For one, the character of Zenon Karr is probably one of the most macro characters ever concocted by a human being. The stellar use of futuristic lingo was probably more interesting than walking on the moon, if you know what I mean.

So here's the story. Lunarious-core Zenon Kar was chilling in her spay-stay and "lolz" Mr. Windom came to visit. He's the man who owns and keeps the spay-stay operating. Stellanarious, ya. Anyways, he and his minion Lutz had plans to destroy the spay-stay "omg"! Zenon Kar tried to foil their plan, but instead she got in trouble and got grounded-- to earth! Oh noes. Earth is lame, major. She didn't fit in well with the earth-born kids, but she found a few good friends and they helped her get back up to space to keep her family from crashing through the earth's atmosphere to their fiery deaths. Yay Disney!

Two John Hungerford-thumbs up.

Great movie for anyone! Watch it today.
taybug_1st20 July 2000
I first saw this movie with my younger siblings during what I thought would be a typical family night. Boy was I wrong! This movie was so entertaining that I found everybody including myself completely engrossed with Zenon and her escapades. We especially love Protozoa and his #1 song "Supernova Girl". We were all up dancing and singing along. Kirsten Storms is a talented young actress, whom I'm sure will go far. I loved this movie and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a movie that is funny, clean, and actually has a storyline that is not too typical or corny. I have seen it many times and will watch it many more I am sure. If not for the movie itself, for Kristian Rex(Protozoa) he is definitely a great addition to Zenon. I know my younger siblings can't wait for the sequel, and neither can I!

Amazing movie for kids and adults alike!
lyricalmoonfairy8 September 2011
This is an absolutely amazing movie. It first aired when I was in my mid to late teen years and although I was a few years older than the characters, I absolutely loved it and watched it repeatedly despite the age differences between myself and the characters. I recently saw the movie again and I still love it just as much now as when I was younger. I still love the costume design, the plot, the storyline, the music... I will always love "Super Nova Girl". It still seems incredibly futuristic. I just plain always have and always will love this movie. I'm 29 years old now and will never grow out of it. I definitely recommend it to every one, from toddlers to seniors and everyone in between. This movie is very entertaining and definitely not just for children.

Zoom Zoom Zoom!
Jamie-7029 June 2000
The best original Disney Channel movie hands down! A hilarious romp! Kirsten Storms is excellent in a break-through performance. However, the character that steals the show is the diabolical Margie, who was played by Lauren Maltby. Margie always is trying to woo Greg, and dis Zenon. It's so funny! And remember, it wasn't you he liked. It was the car!

***** 5 Stars!

Wow, I haven't seen a movie this good and with this much energy in a long time! Kirsten Storms is just amazing as Zenon. Her confidence, just-do-it attitude, optimism and energy makes the viewer feel alive. This movie is a great adventure, and if you're like me, will leave you feeling alive and inspired!

Fun movie!
adeler217 July 2001
I absolutely love this movie. I understand how some people might think Zenon is kind of lame, (I guess it's for a younger audience, I'm 15) but it's stellar. Kirsten Storms is an incredibly talented actress; she shows real promise. I tuned in one Saturday night with nothing to do. Now I own the movie and have watched everything Kirsten Storms has acted in. I am her biggest fan now. To anyone who hasn't seen Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century yet, rent it tonight! You will not be disappointed!

Ceedus Lapeedus! Why isn't this on a network everybody can get!
StrmChsr16 February 1999
Finally, an energetic and exciting show that we can watch as a family and enjoy without worrying about off-color humor or jokes with sexual overtones. And Kirsten Storms is fantastic! Bubbly and full of energy, she brings to the screen the kind of charisma that is a positive motivator for other kids. The only shame is that it's not on a network more people have because it's an uplifting movie that would make a sensational series.

I liked Zenon's hair.
Janissen7 February 1999
I cut my hair like Zenon's. Pathetic? Yes, maybe, but I admired the dangling bangs that coincided with space-station popularity. The movie had likable characters and a clever usage of what-if future-esque possibilities. Enjoyed the common coming-of-age-on-a-different-planet concept.

Very cute.

Great script. May be what kids may sound like in next generation?
dgpowell-35 January 2001
Have you ever seen a futuristic sci-fi movie that adjusted the language of its characters to reflect what words/phrases people might be using in the next generation or two? This imaginative Disney movie does just that. Kirsten Storms is wonderful as the main character, Zenon. And kudos to those resposible for the cool wardrobe.
