Ajay-Kajol's first film together
silvan-desouza6 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Hulchul was Ajay-Kajol's first film together, strangely Kajol was upset with the filmmakers for pairing her with Ajay Devgn and not a Srk and then surprising she dated him for 5 years and married him. The film was Aneez Bazmee's debut who then made Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha with the same pair and got successful. Hulchul also starred Vinod Khanna, Ronit Roy. The film follows the same formula which worked in the 90s, We have a squeaky Kajol who along with Kader Khan, her uncle in the film rob people. Ronit Roy is a spoilt brat who is later convicted for a murder, Ajay plans to save his step brother at any cost, Oh Yes We have another formula of Ajay Devgan being a kid left on the temple streets(Gair,Kachche Daage). The film does feature some good scenes between Ajay-Vinod, Vinod-Amrish but overall it's nothing different. There are some weird scenes too which was garbed in the name of entertainment in 90s. In the preclimax we have Ajay Devgan trying to save his mother and then all of a sudden he reaches the venue where Vinod Khanna, Ronit are going to be hanged with a bandage on his head. Direction is decent but the writing could be better Music by Anu Malik boasts of some hit numbers like I Am Sixteen, Saavan Ka Mahina.

Ajay Devgan did such roles too many times in 90s, he does well In 90s he always had a mushroom style hair, his chewing of bittles type dialogue delivery and has come a long way yet he is good Ronit Roy who now has done a comeback with UDAAN, plays second fiddle to Ajay, he isn't as impressive as nowdays though. Vinod Khanna is his usual tired self, Navni Prahar is as usual, Amrish Puri is his usual self, his English sayings however do get boring. Kajol and Kader Khan do provide some comic moments but though one wishes Kajol didn't squeak that much, but those were 90s. It's sad that Kajol is wasted in such a film. Amongst rest, Mohan Joshi and rest play their usual patented selfs. Arif Khan who resembles Gulshan Grover played similar roles in films like Phool Aur Kaante, Mohra.etc

Hulchul was a flop at the B.O, released on the same day with DDLJ

Watch it for Devgan!!!
mastergirish10 September 2012
I watched this movie first time 10 years before and liked it very much!! Again I watched it today on TV and refreshed the old memories!! It is a must watch for a Ajay Devgn Fan!!

At that time, Ajay was mostly known for action movies.. Ajay's crispy dialogue delivery, brooding eyes and superb acting makes it a good watch!! It is a visual treat when Ajay and Amrish Puri face off each other with intensive dialogues emoting mostly with eyes without going overboard or mindless shouting!! Kajol doesn't have much to show, songs are average, Vinod Khanna, Ronit Roy and Kader Khan are good at their roles!! I had become a huge fan of Ajay at that time only and liked his initial 90's movies like Jigar, Vijaypath etc !!
