"Let's pay homage to rampaging racists in 2014 . . . "
cricket3021 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
. . . on the Turner Classic Movie channel, initiated by former Atlanta Braves owner Ted Turner, most infamous for instigating the Native American-slurring "Tomahawk Chop" and having his then-spouse, "Hanoi Jane" Fonda, leading it during his ubiquitous TV broadcasts on one of the few national cable channels in the last 1900s. Apparently the thinking behind TCM's Easter Sunday 2014 programming was "since one good Resurrection deserves another, let's revive indiscriminate racism in America." What better "short" exists with which to precede its re-broadcast of the frequently racist ANNIE GET YOUR GUN than the rampantly racist "LET'S SING A STEPHEN FOSTER SONG," wherein wall-to-wall singers wearing "Black-Face" belt out quaint ditties about "Darkies," complete with outrageous Ebonics passages such as "All De world am sad and dreary" or "Gwine to run all night, Gwine to run all day" actually printed below the picture with orders for us to "sing along," all of which seems plotted to make ANNIE look "innocent" by way of comparison. As one brave American once said to mad-dog Sen. Joseph McCarthy: "TCM, have you no shame? Have you no decency?"
