Skallagrigg help!!!
dave-hamilton13 May 2002
I work in special education and have been using this film as a teaching aid for many years. As well as a powerful and moving piece of drama, I like it because it chips away at the assumption that people in wheelchairs cannot be pro-active. My problem is that the copy I made from the tv transmission is about worn out. I've tried to buy a replacement but apparently Skallagrigg was never released to video. Can anybody help?

This is one of the most important films ever made

I watched this programme when I was eleven and it has stuck in my mind for seven years! I thought it was and still is a very important and gripping film, that brings its audience to tears of laughter and sadness. One of the greatest programmes I have ever seen. Absolutely fantastic.

this was a great film

i saw this movie when it played on the abc in Australia on night some years ago, and i was absolutely awestruck by the emotions emanating from the screen - both sad and wildly funny - yes.....lets say that i found this film to be most moving, in every way, but it also made me feel comfortable with the subject at hand, in a humorous sort of way!!! the actors were not actors to me, as i found the realism and atmosphere most engaging to the point of living aside the characters as the story progresses. suspense, sympathy, empathy, fear, but most of all humour!!! what else can i say, except this is one of the mostly unsung, and by far under estimated films of recent times. It is a film that would enrich the minds of those who take the time to take it in, and experience the emotions that it stirs.

A funny and sad and eye opening movie with more power than Rain Man.

I am currently reading the book, which gives the depth and bits missing from a thoroughly enjoyable film. I first saw it in the Falkland Islands and was lucky to catch a re-run upon my return to the UK, and videoed it. A very moving film that had me in hysterics in a lot of places. A real eye opener and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Powerful

An absolutely astonishingly powerful film. Hilarious, witty and gruesome. It pushes and pulls the viewer through every realm of emotion and leaves no ground untouched with its broadchurch of all walks of life from sheer happiness to absolute disgust. If you ever get the opportunity to see this film do not pass up on that chance. Bernard Hill is brilliant as the father John, moving from pathos to humour to bloody mindedness with consumate ease. Billie Whitelaw, is great snidlly and cynically drifting through the film with with an air of arrogance not so easily achieved by others. Kerry Noble playing Esther is amazing. The bond that starts to develope with her father as they travel around is a joy to watch. I do not wish to say anything about the storyline because there are nuances and sub plots aplenty which all need to be seen in the order that they are shown for the viewer to appreciate the full impact as they are revealed. Do watch this film. It is a tour de force that will never be equaled.
