  • Richard tells Laura that she shouldn't wear a "sexy looking top" in public (he has only known her for roughly a day or so) and he also writes her a letter stating he sometimes thinks of her sexually.
  • Some victim-blaming; Laura is told that she may be escalating Farley's behavior by wearing certain clothing at her aerobics class. She wears a crop-top and 80's style stretch pants in her class, and later Farley appears there to bother her.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • Laura attempts to file charges against Richard for sexual harassment. The human resources lady she speaks to treats her in a sexist manner, displaying blatant victim-blaming tactics and saying that her clothes will present an "awkward situation", and that Richard might be bothering her because she "smiles at him too much".
  • Laura shouts out at Richard in frustration, asking if he "wants to rape" her.
  • Richard digs up an old Kleenex from the garbage can with a lipstick print on it, presumably Laura's. He passionately kisses the Kleenex.
  • Richard writes a letter to Laura stating "sometimes I think of you sexually", and this scares her.

Violence & Gore

  • Various office workers are seen being shot, chased and trying to escape. We get a particularly disturbing scene of a man bleeding to death and getting dragged into the bathroom to safety, only for Richard Farley to shoot him and another male colleague.
  • Nancy has a gun pointed at her but Richard lets her go.
  • Richard threatens to shoot and kill himself and others throughout the film. He also questions Lawrence on the building's security, implying that he plans to bring guns into the building.
  • Richard repeatedly stalks, harasses and threatens Laura, sometimes in a violent and disturbing manner including the slashing of car tires, threatening to rape her sisters and mother, corralling her in the bathroom at work, breaking and entering and eventually shooting her.
  • Some hospital shots of Laura being operated on; blood is seen but nothing overly dramatic or graphic.
  • This film is not particularly gory but does feature some intense onscreen deaths and bloodshed, all of which is based on the real-life 1980's ESL Incorporated Shootings. Lawrence Kane is shot in the heart and falls over on the hood of a vehicle. Glenda Moritz is shot and falls through a plate-glass window to her death. Laura is shot and her lung is punctured, but she survives.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Richard points out that in high school Laura tried marijuana and tells her, "if we're going to have a relationship you have to promise me you'll never do drugs again!"

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The shootings featured in this film are based on a real-life incident, and the film uses the real names of victims including Lawrence "Larry" Kane, Glenda Moritz and Laura Black. This might upset some viewers.
  • The scenes of people being shot are quite disturbing. Lawrence collapses atop the hood of a car and cries out in pain before dying. Glenda begs "oh god please no!" before being killed. Laura cries and desperately calls a hostage negotiator, claiming that her lung is punctured. Victims are often seen moaning and bleeding, which would most likely frighten some viewers.
  • Threats of murder, suicide and rape are said throughout the film by Richard Farley.
  • A woman is stalked throughout the film. She often cries and shows signs of blatant distress, especially when the stalking warps into threats and vandalism.
