This is a rather strong and intense movie about an all-female Shanghai theater troupe comprised of Tsui (Kara Hui), Shen (Ann Mui), Hsiao (Pauline Wang), Sai (Lai Yin San) and Ching (Idy Chan). They must deal with the prejudice of being all female in a male-dominated arts profession, and also deal with a ruthless triad group.
Filmed with much powerful drama, breathtaking martial arts, acrobatic opera moves and colorful cinematography, this is a film that grabs your attention from start to finish. My dad doesn't give flying praises to many Chinese films, but he does love this one!
***spoiler ahead*** It's too bad that some of the regarded characters in this movie sacrifices themselves toward the end, which I also thought was a little rushed. ***spoiler ends***
I am a sucker for happy endings, but sometimes, stories take an unexpected turn. A pretty good movie overall.
