Worthy followup, lacking the irreverence of the original

Warning: Spoilers
You can go home again, if PRETTY PEACHES 2 means anything. Alex de Renzy returns to a property ten years after it made such a historic splash in the porn world (pun intended) and delivers another outlandish entertainment.

Perhaps it is because he didn't try to top himself that he succeeded. No need to go to the extreme of perhaps the cinema's most popularizing enema sequence ever (and I include the competition from Shaun Costello's creepy WATER POWER), that helped immortalize Desiree Cousteau in the first film.

Title role here goes to Siobhan Hunter, the cute actress who never became a superstar but did contribute some good performances amidst the dross inevitable with her coming of age in the Video era. But stealing center stage is Tracey Adams, playing her mom.

Storyline is intentionally silly, as De Renzy is at his best with loosey-goosey antics rather than sustained plotting - I have always thought of him in the same vein as his contemporary Robert Downey Sr. (PUTNEY SWOPE; GREASER'S PALACE).

Some of the memorable notions and sex scenes include Tracey servicing Peter North, after she thinks he's a burglar, forces him to strip and diagnoses that he has a case of "Lover's Nuts", "engorged with fluid", which is relieved by his subsequent copious money shot.

As with the Cousteau film, the humor derives from the innocence of the teen title character, not a Candide, but more like Playboy's Little Annie Fanny cartoon. De Renzy is the cinema's master of the visualized dirty joke, though in current movies the mainstream artists like the Farrelly Bros., Judd Apatow and many pretenders have co-opted this field from the pornographers.

There's a lengthy and self-indulgent sequence in San Francisco where Jamie Gillis in drag plays the matriarch of a hippie family (Peaches gets hired as a maid), involving incest and other shenanigans. Subplot of Peaches' divorced parents Adams and Herschel Savage rushing to her rescue is less than scintillating.

Things escalate for Peaches as Ron Jeremy pops up as a Vietnam War vet and unlikely uncle to Herschel; Ron gets to have anal sex with step-niece Peaches, and she is introduced to lesbian sex by Melissa Melendez immediately afterward. "It's all a dream" ending is a drag, but it was fun getting there.

Movie was shot on film which is a great plus, and not surprisingly won key industry awards -which are an unreliable (to say the least) barometer of quality but do represent popularity contests and the prominence of the participants - not unlike the phony-baloney Golden Globes. Third entry in the series has Adams returning but is not in the league of the earlier ones.

A whole lot of zany fun

Warning: Spoilers
Sweet and naive teenager Peaches (a winningly perky portrayal by yummy brunette Siobhan Hunter) is eager to learn all about sex. After her horny boyfriend Bobby (buff stud Peter North, who cuts loose with a couple of his patented Old Faithful style orgasmic eruptions) and domineering mother Eunice (tartly played by the tantalizing Tracey Adams) fail to help her with her carnal education, Peaches decides to take her father Stanley's (likable Hershel Savage) advice and pays a visit to nutty Vietnam veteran Uncle Howard (a deliciously hammy Ron Jeremy) and his oddball family of jolly perverts.

Director Alex de Renzy keeps the enjoyably loopy and irreverent story moving along at a snappy pace, derives plenty of laughs from the amusing sense of blithely bawdy and off the wall humor, maintains an engaging lighthearted tone throughout, sprinkles in several of his customary inspired offbeat touches, and presents a colorful array of hysterical eccentric characters, with Jamie Gillis in particular having a grand campy time as a lecherous tranny granny. The sex scenes are quite hot and energetic, with a father and son tag teaming their amorous mother set piece rating as the scorching naughty highlight. Better still, the women are all stone foxes: Besides Hunter and Adams, we also got buxom babe Janette Littledove as foulmouthed hooker Julie, ravishing redhead Tammy White as tasty secretary Miss Wilson, and the enticing Melissa Melendez as Peaches' worldly mentor Crystal. A real riot.

Fun Sequel

Pretty Peaches 2 (1987)

*** (out of 4)

Peaches (Siobhan Hunter) realizes that she knows very little about sex and her mother (Tracey Adams) isn't willing to teach her so she runs off on a wild journey to try and discover the secrets. This includes running into her father, her weird uncle (Ron Jeremy) and eventually to her "grandmother (Jamie Gillis).

Alex de Renzy's 1978 film PRETTY PEACHES is without a doubt one of the best porn movies out there and this sequel is certainly a worthy follow up. Desiree Cousteau is obviously sadly missed in this sequel and there's no doubt that she made the original so special. With that said, the cast here are quite good and there's no question that de Renzy adds some pretty bizarre but very funny sequences throughout the picture.

Not only do you get Jeremy and Gillis but there's also Peter North. All of these will be familiar to fans of the genre but all of them are given such bizarre scenes that you can't help but love the humor that the director was going for. This is especially true with the Jeremy sequences as he gang bangs a woman with his son! The comic incest theme was actually very funny but so was the Gillis stuff where he plays a grandma. All of the sex scenes are good in their own way but it's certainly the charm and humor that makes the picture.

I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from the film. After all, waiting so many years to make a sequel seems more like a cash grab than anything else but de Renzy really delivered a fun and memorable movie.
