Moffatt gives his son Spencer a job. He turns out to be a revolutionary and incites the workers to strike and make all kinds of demands. Fred then has a microphone installed on the shop floor to hear what he is saying. Harry reverses the mic and they hear Spencer telling his dad that the staff are useless.

Fred's son Spencer is in Australia, and Doris wants to go and see him. Fred puts the company in the red to pay for the trip. Williams at the bank won't extend the overdraught and the bill collectors are at the door. Charlie offers to invest in the company with a small inheritance. Fred jumps at it. Only problem is, he becomes a manager and drives the shop floor guys crazy. They go on strike again and Williams tries to take over the business.

Fred tries to get Betty to quit smoking. She gets so fed up, she quits and goes to work for Gregory's. Fred sends Charlie over there to gather intel on his competitor, but instead Charlie gets hired too. He then devises a plan where he phones Gregory's wife and reports intimate behaviour between Betty and Mr. Gregory. As planned, Charlie and Betty come back.

A salesman, Stan James comes in to the office to sell stationery. Fred wants to get the staff on fake sick leave back to work. He makes an employee punch card for Stan and hopes Charlie will call Harry and tell him it is against union rules. Instead, Harry comes back to work and Stan gives him a dead cert on Saturday's race. Harry won't call a strike or do anything until Saturday.
