Wish I Coulda Heard It...
EVOL6662 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Unfortunately, for whatever reason, my ALPHA BLUE ARCHIVES copy of Alex de Renzy's BABYFACE has ZERO audio - so most of the "plot" of the film was completely lost on me. I've since read some of the other reviews and see where it was going, but I'm going to explain it from my initial viewing point-of-view.

A construction worker is on the run after he bones an underage girl and ends up in some place where a lot of orgies take place. THE END.

Based on all the really high-rated reviews on here, I'm guessing that the dialog involved in BABYFACE is what really takes it to the next level. Based strictly on the visuals, I found it just slightly above average. There's definitely a kinky "lolita" vibe going on and there's lots of group-sex scenes, but none of it was anything that I hadn't seen in better films. But again - I can only judge the visuals as I had NO audio to go off of. Who knows - maybe the dialog really DOES make this films. As it stands, I'd say to go with FEMMES DE SADE for a REALLY "classic" de Renzy film - or for the TRULY adventurous - ANIMAL LOVER which he co-directed...6/10

One of the Greats!

This really is one of the all time classics. Forget the cheap, rushed video films of today and indulge yourself with this treat. Focusing on one man hiding from the law in a male brothel, it includes some memorable scenes. There's a terrific orgy scene as one girl takes on the whole stable of studs and a bizarre scene involving clingfilm. What I particularly liked about this film is that it featured ordinary women enjoying themselves. There's none of the silicone enhanced stars of today-it's all natural. Also, some of the women were older than you would find today, which is no bad thing. All in all, a good movie for lovers of the adult genre and suitable for couples I would say.

If you like your porn politically correct, look elsewhere !

Alex De Renzy (FEMMES DE SADE, PRETTY PEACHES) was one of the greatest directors of adult films ever, his career starting in the late 60s and proceeding well into the 90s. So saying that BABY FACE stands as his crowning achievement is no small praise. This ranks as one skin flick that truly has it all : a complete story line, fine production, a couple of decent acting performances (Paul Thomas, Joey Silvera, Sandi Pinney as race car driver Tasha) and some of the hottest sex scenes ever assembled in a single movie.

Big, lumbering Dan Roberts stars as the hapless construction worker who has to go into hiding following his seduction of underage but willing Priscilla (Lyn 'Cuddles' Malone, looking very young but according to all reports over 20 at the time of shooting) which incurs the wrath of her religious fanatic of a mum (the amazing Molly Seagrim, real life wife of cult carnal creator Zachary Strong, taking over from THUNDERCRACK!'s Marion Eaton who got cold feet at the last minute). After a near-fatal accident leaves him unconsciously drifting in the bay, he is saved by fan favorites Amber Hunt (star of Shaun Costello's Fiona ON FIRE) and Linda Wong (unforgettable in Howard Ziehm's SWEET CAKES) who clean him up and then some. Hunt comes up with the brilliant idea of taking him to the Training Camp, a brothel catering exclusively for rich women and run by her aunt, affectionately referred to as the Champ.

Naturally, this fancy cat house (or should that be a 'doghouse', considering the role reversal ?) provides the perfect backdrop for the movie's myriad sexual situations, nearly all of them handled with great style and enthusiasm by cast and filmmaker alike, shot through with a wickedly subversive humor that may not sit too well with the PC crowd, though they would probably never admit to watching this kind of film in the first place. Standout scenes include gentle giant Roberts tender initiation of the eager Malone, their contrast in size providing an instant thrill all by itself, and the late great Kristine Heller (whose life story was turned into another adult film, THE AWAKENING, by one time paramour Paul Thomas) taking on pretty much all the guys present in what has to stand as the single greatest gang bang sequence ever committed to film or video.

Porn Perfection
daernoult14 July 2006
A great movie!!! I saw this at age 14 after finding a pirate copy in my dads room. Stand out scene has to be the Paul Thomas/Patricia Lee scene with Amber Hunt joining in half way through. Porno Perfection, I have never, ever seen another scene which matches this for its eroticism and intensity. I cannot believe that no one else has mentioned it. Also the Dan Roberts/Linda Wong and Amber Hunt scene on the house boat is not bad, I would not have minded being bathed by those two!! I could really take or leave the rest of the 'scenes' but at least this move has a plot and is shot well. Please, please, please, does anybody know where we can find the DVD for this? A crime it has not been released.

Possibly the best "Golden Age" porn film.
peter-422-7062513 July 2012
I have to agree with Daernoult (above), the stand-out scene in this movie is the Paul Thomas/Desiree West (aka Patricia Lee) scene, and its continuation when Amber Hunt joins in. One of the hottest scenes in all porn IMO. It really helps the eroticism of this scene that the underrated Desiree West could REALLY act (for my money porn's best actress). You have to see it to understand why, for once, good acting is important here. Note: you have to see the uncut version - which is available - the "contentious" dialogue in this scene is cut in at least one DVD release.

The notorious Kristine Heller gang-bang scene is also fantastic and runs the above a close second. In fact all but a couple of the sex scenes are really hot (and there's loads of them!).

The acting is mostly pretty good, though I have to disagree with the guy who singled out Joey Silvera and Sandy Pinney for special praise: Silvera's acting is mostly poor and Pinney's not much better, though both are good performers when it comes to the stuff that matters.

Filthy, funny and hugely entertaining, this is a well made, humorous, slightly subversive movie from the days when porn was a semi outlaw, counter-cultural activity in (mostly) San Francisco. Within a few years porn relocated itself to LA and became plastic and air-headed. Ah well...

See this movie if you want to find out just how inventive and exciting 70s porn could be at its best.

Ah yes, the Nutcracker's sweet!!
philkessell25 November 2005
Well, what can anyone say about this little gem! I saw it first in 1982 aged 15, and only last week came across it again.

Superlatives cannot describe this absolute, genuine classic - strong narrative, humour and a myriad of peachy one liners delivered by a posse of 'actors' who take the 'method' to its logical conclusion and genuinely look like they are enjoying themselves. There are times, my friends, when the delivery is so good you feel like you're almost in the room.

Unlike many films of this ilk, Babyface has a strong story with a fantastic twist you don't see coming till the Nutcracker's identity is finally revealed. I won't spoil it for you folks, but you'll be clinging on for dear life once you finally find out.

After a series of adventures and one serious er 'misdemeanour' our hero, Dan, finds himself at the Training Camp run by the redoubtable 'Champ' - a pint sized madam who makes Atilla the Hun look like a Red Cross volunteer. She reads Dan the Riot Act before introducing him to a small coterie of high achieving yet libidinous females who, over the course of the next ninety minutes, shag him senseless. That's about it, but watch out for the Nutcracker folks. She's heavy, really freaky....

The 'Citizen Kane' of adult entertainment, and not a zither in sight.

Another Gem from de Renzy

Babyface (1977)

*** (out of 4)

Dan (Dan Roberts) is one day working on the docks when 15-year-old Priscilla (Lyn Malone) approaches him. Before long the two are having sex but her mother Molly (Molly Seagrim) shows up and now the daughter cries rape. Dan is shot by a cop and falls into a body of water where he's eventually dragged out by a couple ladies. After being cleaned up Dan joins a male prostitution group but soon he runs into Molly again.

Director Alex de Renzy ended up having a very successful run starting in 1977 with this film and the notorious LONG JEANNE SILVER before following these up the next year with the classic PRETTY PEACHES. For my money PRETTY PEACHES is the best of these three films but there's no question that all of them have a special place in the history of adult cinema. In fact, the more I watch of de Renzy the more I'm starting to enjoy and respect his work as it certainly has its own vibe and laughs.

Obviously the subject matter here will probably put some off even those who enjoy watching dirty movies. What's so hilarious about the film is that its naughty subject matter really leads to some very funny scenes including the meeting between Dan and Priscilla. The dialogue is certainly campy and I'd argue that the entire sequence is somewhat campy in a good way. Obviously if the subject was taken seriously there wouldn't be a need for laughs but de Renzy brought his typical comic style and it works.

For the most part Roberts makes for a good lead and he manages to make you believe the scenario that this poor guy is going through. Malone would apparently only appear in this one film but she too is quite memorable in the role of the teenager who is a lot naughtier than her mom thinks. You've also got Desiree West who is always fun to watch and Amber Hunt.

BABYFACE runs a bit too long at 105-minutes but fans of the genre and the director will certainly enjoy it.

Sizzling slice of 70's hardcore cinema
Woodyanders9 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Underage teenage tease (delectable petite honey Lyn Malone) gets caught doing the deed with dockhand Dan (a likeable performance by the hulking Dan Roberts) by her uptight mother Molly (a delightfully snarky portrayal by Molly Seagram). Fortunately, Dan manages to avoid being arrested by the police and winds up becoming a stud at an all-male brothel that caters to women.

Director Alex de Renzy maintains an amiable breezy tone throughout and keeps the enjoyably bawdy story moving along at a constant quick pace. The sex scenes are quite explicit, arousing, and energetic; they run the gamut from BDSM to kinky role playing. This film further benefits from a bevy of blazing hot ladies: Luscious Amber Hunt, foxy Linda Wong, sassy Desiree West, buxom blonde Carla Harwood, tasty slender minx Angela Haze, and the lovely Kristine Heller, who in the movie's scorching highlight takes on a room full of guys. The funky-grinding score hits the right-on groovy spot. Wholly deserving of its classic status.

excellent adult film, good action, lovely ladies, and its mildly humorous.
travinitrav31 January 2023
For an adult movie it has a decent plot with some storytelling. A guy "accidentally" does it with an underage girl and has to go on the run. (Don't worry, the actress was well over 18 at the time). He ends up at a brothel and must stay there or be turned over to the police. He services various women as best he can before getting frustrated. Some of them are nicer than others. He also has flashbacks to other encounters in his life.

One amusing fun-fact is most of the performers here were in one and only one movie, this one. Including our hero, Dan.

The action scenes are great and well shot especially for this era. Lots of variety including groups and interracial.

Earlier DVD releases range from just OK to pure garbage. The HD release looks excellent except for a minor nitpick. In the 2nd half of the movie the frame jiggles a LOT. They used the cheap process of scanning the film while it played and the quality varies. Like the guy who did it was an armature or very pressed for time. Audio is mono but good quality, no scratches or weird sound compression or anything like that. You should probably look for the HD version wherever you buy your golden age smut.

Highly recommended movie especially for fans of the classics.

Conterversial

Warning: Spoilers
One thing that Alex Derenzy does is shock . This is a shocker .Lynn Cuddles Malone plays a problem teenager that the teacher, played by the same actor who was in Sex world, to her mother played by Molley Seagrim and she does not believe him. Tricking poor Dan to think that she is an adult and seducing him. Only to be chased by the cop played by a famous football player, ending up as a male prostitute working In a bordello for wealthy women. Their is some rough sex scene in it where Desiree West wants Dan,but, Paul Thomas won't let her, but she in love with him and is willing to have sex with Amber to pleas him .What a poor sex worker. Then Dan ends up with Tanya the race driver and she dominates him,I think played by Sandy Pinney. Carla Harwood is a divorcee Shirley who ends up with Trick played by Joey Silvers. The hottest is when business women ,played by Kristen Heller , want to hire a lot of tricks. The best of all is Molly Seagrim who tries to get revenge against Dan with saran wrap. The disk also contains an interview with her A San Francisco writer actress also done behind the camera work .She even stated how Dan was not an actor ,but in real estate and Derenzy hired him . Dan Even tried to ask for a date with her during the saran wrap scene take. Now for part two in the Derenzy short Parochial Passion princes........ Excellent golden age feature from 1977 restored by Vinegar Syndrome. 09/07/19
