Plot Summary

In need of some luck, lovers and struggling con artists, Flash and Firecat, plan to steal $50,000 from a small-town bank, despite Flash's reservations about her partner's latest scheme. As Flash kidnaps Tracy Walley, the bank manager's teenage son, Firecat informs Mr. Walley about the abduction, then escapes with all the money in the bank. After leaving Tracy in a location several miles out of town, the couple picks up supplies to make a getaway across the desert in their customized dune buggies. Although blundering Sheriff C.W. Thurston is unable to capture the duo, a determined insurance agent, Milo Pewett, follows their trail.

Quotes Rookie Bob: This is car nineteen! Do you hear me, Clyde?
Clyde: [over speaker] Ten-four.
Rookie Bob: I think it's them! It's a boy and a girl and they're in an orange buggy. They're heading across open country towards county park. I'm going to check them out.
Clyde: Roger, nineteen, I'll get some assistance out there, right away.
Rookie Bob: Damn it, Clyde, I don't need any assistance! This is my big chance to show 'ol Beer Gut what I can really do!
Sheriff C.W. Thurston: This IS Beer Gut! You already got help, sonny boy! Now, if you foul up and lose them, it's your badge!
Rookie Bob: Yes, sir.
Sheriff C.W. Thurston: I'll block them off at Sycamore Road. There ain't no way they can get out.
Rookie Bob: Yes, sir.
[to himself]
Rookie Bob: I've been on this police force for almost a year and they still treat me like I was a rookie. I'll show them. I'm gonna catch that son of a bitch.
