Sex & Nudity

  • A woman briefly shows her breasts before consummating her marriage.
  • A psychiatrist is having an affair with a woman who may be one of his patients.
  • Because Jack (Peter O'Toole) believes he is Jesus, he assumes he can blurt out anything he wants to matter how vulgar or outrageous, so he very carelessly makes references to sex. This is played for laughs.
  • Jack's improvised wedding vow begins "From the bottom of my soul to the tip of my p*nis"... This may offend people who feel that a character who believes himself to be Jesus Christ should not say that, but the moment is also played for laughs.

Violence & Gore

  • A murder occurs.
  • A character who enjoys hanging himself for auto-erotic purposes accidentally breaks his own neck (this is played as comedy).

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Drinks referred to and served at various points throughout.
  • One character is drunk to excess throughout the movie.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The scene in which Jack is "cured" is quite intense, as is the second murder.
  • When Jack addresses the House of Lords, we see them from his point of view, as decaying skeletons seated upright.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Two women are stabbed to death and an innocent man is framed for one of the murders. The second stabbing occurs almost at the very end of the picture. The murder is filmed silent, but after the victim falls on the floor, we hear her horrific, protracted, blood-curdling scream on the soundtrack.

Profanity

  • The main character purports to be God.
