Barbara explains her relationship with Johnny Trent to Jennifer, who attempts to remain civil. With Jill away in Hamburg, Julie provides David with ample temptation. Ted wants a meeting with Johnny and reminds Jennifer that Barbara stands to inherit half of the Hammond fortune. Bill Riley opens up to Jennifer about his wife Gwen's dissatisfaction with their home. Mary takes an interest in the newlyweds. Jill returns and is displeased to learn about Julie's continued presence. Ann acts coolly toward Nicholas Fox, but he gains the upper hand.

Brian travels to Dover in search of business expansion. Julie's presence creates tension in David and Jill's marriage. Ted and Jennifer have different ideas about Johnny. Ted and Bill Riley travel to the continent for their first transcontinental shipment, unaware that they have been set up by Jim Barker and are being followed. Nicholas Fox peddles his wares to Jennifer. Mary and Jennifer both want to avoid the dinner that Ted has goaded Mary into having. Ann accompanies Nicholas for an afternoon of culture and coolly resists him at every turn. On the way home, the Hammond lorry is hijacked with the lorry eventually found but not the load. The police strong arm Jim Barker, but when his background check comes clean, and a trusted employee is found to have a criminal history, the investigation turns in a new direction.

The police continue to put pressure on two suspects in the hijacking, both of whom are taken into custody. Barbara wants to know the extent of Johnny's debt and takes charge. Jennifer tells Ted her suspicions about Bill Riley and Robert Hammond. Jill suggests divorce to David, whose arguments she no longer believes. Mary learns that Julie is destroying David's marriage.

David presses Brian to release Jill's financial guarantee at Hammond Transport. Ted invites Jennifer on a leisure weekend. Barbara secretly turns to Mary. David walks out on Jill's get together with old friends. Tempers flare when Mary confronts Julie about David and a heated argument ensues. Ann learns that Nicholas is leaving for Brussels, prompting a confession and a turning point in their flirtation.
