This is a movie about WW2, about partisans (fighting against Germans) and domobrans (I'm not sure if there is a translation for that), recruited by Germans to fight for them. But it is also a universal story about any civil war. When people who sing the same songs and who work on the same soil have to fight each other, it is the worst kind of war, because it is hard to let oneself be guided by hatred and/or principles.
Many moral dilemmas get into way of the heroes of this movie, and they often make decisions against their hearts. Some of the scenes are pure tearjerkers, especially the one about deciding whether to execute the domobran captain or not.
Needless to say, the acting is superb, especially that of Boris Dvornik and Ivica Vidović, but in very small roles you can also see Rade erbedija and Fabijan ovagović.
You won't have many opportunities to see this one, so if you get one, don't miss it!
