Secrets of Sinister House takes us back to Red Rain Batman just in time for Halloween.
Fifth weeks are odd beasts in the comics world. They throw off the natural rhythm of comic publishing, with one book every two or four weeks, and end up stacking some months ane leaving others barren. Fortunately, comic companies have found fun and creative ways to deal with them. Like having Bill Sienkiewicz ink a John Romita Jr. drawing of Vampire Batman from Red Rain chasing down a possibly envampired Joker.
Secrets of Sinister House is, like all of DC's seasonal anthology books, 80 pages of short stories, in and out of continuity, with mix and match creative teams that let us get introduced to some new creators and duck back into favorite continuities. Included in this anthology are:
- Rafael Scavone and Rafael Albuquerque telling a story with the above-mentioned...

The arrangement may have changed, but the sentiment remains: Two can keep a secret… if one of them is dead. Freeform on Thursday unveiled a new version of Pretty Little Liars‘ iconic theme song “Secret,” as heard in the series premiere of its upcoming spinoff Pll: The Perfectionists.
Originally performed by The Pierces, this angelic (and far creepier) take comes courtesy of musical duo Denmark + Winter, whose work has been featured in a number of TV shows and movies — including The Perfectionists’ parent series. (Its cover of “Stand by Me” played during Hanna and Caleb’s low-key wedding ceremony in Season 7.)

While it may seem like Netflix is becoming a destination for endless original content, the latest three series ordered sound very interesting.
The streamer announced Friday that it has ordered The I-Land, October Faction, and Warrior Nun to series, and has even offered up some casting details for one of them.
"When ten people wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of who they are or how they got there, they set off on a trek to try to get back home," reads the official logline for The I-Land the seven-part drama.
"They soon discover this world is not as it seems. Faced with the island’s extreme psychological and physical challenges, they must rise to their better selves -- or die as their worst ones."

Netflix is expanding its sci-fi/genre portfolio with three new series orders, to Neil Labute’s The I-Land, starring Kate Bosworth, Natalie Martinez and Alex Pettyfer; October Faction, based on the Idw comics by Steve Niles, and Warrior Nun, inspired by the Manga novels.
Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of October Faction, from creator/executive producer Damian Kindler, High Park Entertainment in association with Idw Entertainment; seven episodes of The I-Land, from Nomadic Pictures Entertainment, with Bosworth also producing; and 10 episodes of Warrior Nun, from creator/executive producer Simon Barry.
They join the recently picked up new sci-fi series The Order, Wu Assassins, Locke & Key, V Wars, and Another Life as Netflix is making in big push in the genre arena as is rival Amazon.
The I-Land marks Magic Mike star Pettyfer’s TV series debut. Bosworth previously did stints on The Art of More, Young Americans and BBC’s SS-bg.

Lille, France — The Torino Film Lab and Series Mania have announced this year’s nine participating projects in the SeriesLab forum. SeriesLab is a joint venture intended to address one of the most significant challenges facing the European fiction TV industry: Developing screenwriting talent.
The event is held as a forum to mentor creative talent by gathering writers, creators and showrunners from nine series in early-stage development. The projects participate in a five-month course with three residential workshops and two online sessions, all culminating in a final presentation at the Series Mania Co-Production Forum on May 3.
SeriesLab project manager Angelica Cantisani credits the success of last year’s inaugural forum with producing an even stronger crop of projects this year. “We had the advantage of a really successful first edition that spread the word,” she says.

It was a night of firsts at the 71st annual Golden Globes, as numerous first-timers walked away big winners – from Bryan Cranston and Amy Poehler to Matthew McConaughey and Amy Adams.
See the Highs and Lows of the 2014 Golden Globes
One thing that wasn't unfamiliar, though: Poehler and Tina Fey co-hosted the show for the second year in a row. "We are so happy to be back," Fey said. "We're hosting for a second time, because this is Hollywood, and if something works they’ll just keep doing it until everyone hates it.

Three days after Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was released worldwide and broke box office records here, there and everywhere in its opening weekend, production pushed forward on the first sequel.
Warner Bros. had all of the cast contracted for the first four films, and immediately exercised its option for Part 2, targeting a November 2002 release date. Behind the scenes, Steve Kloves reprised his screenwriting role and Chris Columbus returned to the director's chair.
Picking up a few weeks after the first film's happy ending, Harry Potter is pretty miserable. He hasn't heard from his wizarding friends all summer and he's living with the Dursleys once again, who enact a classic sitcom situation,...

Swedish actor best known for the 1966 film Hunger
Per Oscarsson, who has died aged 83, was perhaps the only leading Swedish actor who never worked with Ingmar Bergman. This might have been by accident rather than design, although Oscarsson was known for his manic performances, whereas Bergman's men were usually placid. In other words, Oscarsson was more Klaus Kinski than Max Von Sydow.
Oscarsson's most memorable role was in Sult (Hunger, 1966) as Pontus, a bespectacled, penniless and starving young writer in Norway at the end of the 19th century. His complex, agonisingly convincing portrait of a man, ravaged by hunger, whose mind is on the verge of disintegration, split between moments of lucidity and despair, won Oscarsson the best actor award at Cannes and worldwide acclaim.
Hunger was the first all-Scandinavian co-production. Shot in Oslo, it was based on the famous psychological novel by the Norwegian author Knut Hamsun, with a...
