Where have I seen this before?
CuriosityKilledShawn30 October 2005
The Pink Panther fancies a job as a Matador but moths have eaten his red cape, so he decides to steal an enchanted cape from a Magician. Once in the arena his taunting of the bull only leads to magic going awry and the bull freaking out. It's mildly amusing without ever being laugh-out-loud funny.

The whole premise is nicked from the 1953 cartoon A Bully for Bugs in which Bugs, as a matador, outsmarts a raging bull. Pinky doesn't do it quite so well and as a result the cartoon is quite boring. Not much effort put into the backgrounds either so it also looks quite cheap as well as being laugh-less.

Original Or Not, It's Still Pretty Funny, And That's No Bull
ccthemovieman-126 May 2007
Our Panther sees a bunch of posters promoting a bullfighter in Mexico City and suddenly imagines himself as a great toreador. After stealing a cape off a magician, we suddenly see the PP at a stadium for "amateur bullfights" day in which the one survivor of four candidates will win a big prize.

We only see one matador - the Pink Panther, but it is an extremely entertaining affair. Our boy has a contest with a huge and terrifying bull. Since the cape is from a magician, you see some very weird things happen every time the bull passes through the cape. This was fun, and original material. (At least I thought it was original until I read another review here.)

Anway, it was original for me and it was interesting to see what strange thing was going to happen next. The bull was drawn well and made me laugh just looking at it. The ending with the bees was a bit weak, however.

Bully for Bugs but with The Pink Panther
TheLittleSongbird10 May 2013
The Pink Panther cartoons were part of my childhood and I still am fond of them to this day, and while Bully for Pink is not one of the best of Pinky it is still very entertaining. The backgrounds are sparsely detailed at times and the ending is rushed and not particularly funny. I do agree somewhat about the premise not being the most original, reading the title and the synopsis I immediately thought of Bully for Bugs(which I prefer actually) and there are shades of that cartoon in here, though I'm not sure whether I'd go as far to say it nicked it. However, the bull is very well drawn, terrifying at times but somewhat cute too, as is Pinky. The colours are lovely too. The theme tune is still infectious, even after hearing it umpteen times I am not annoyed at all by it, and the music for the cartoon is subtly used and easy to remember. The gags are not the same as those for Bully for Bugs, and they are well-timed and above all they are funny as well, especially the sequence with the rabbit. Pinky is still the cool and clever character we know him for, and the bull- I agree that the sound effects are priceless!- brings great support and contrast. All in all, not Pinky's best but still very good and entertaining. 8/10 Bethany Cox

A Pink Panther cartoon made for good laughters
Atreyu_II19 August 2007
"Bully For Pink" is one of the best and funniest Pink Pather's cartoons. Extremely underrated, but one of my personal favorites.

The Pink Panther decides to try a new challenge: to know what it's like to be a toreador (or matador). Since he has no cape, he steals a magician's cape, without knowing that the cape he just stole is actually a magical cape!

When the Pink Panther enters in the arena, a big bull appears. Strange and hilarious things happen whenever the bull goes straight to the red cape. For example, a birdcage appears on the bull's head and there is an occasion when the cape deposits flowers on the bull's horns. That always makes me laugh!

I also give good laughters whenever a very quick-tempered rabbit kicks the bull, driving the bull nuts and disappearing into the cape. The bull also makes some hilarious sounds! I also like the part when the Panther locks the bull and slams the bull's face while he yells and when the bull is free the Panther is petrified.

However, the part when the bull is split in two halves is sad and touching. The bull cries in that scene. But in the end the bull recovers his two halves and leaves the arena very happy, while the rabbit has had enough, packs his suitcases and leaves! Simply hilarious!

That bull is so funny-looking: despite being large, his head, nose and ears are so tiny!

I absolutely love this animated short! Great fun, incredibly entertaining and very humorous! A classic!

Pink Toro!
OllieSuave-00729 June 2016
The Pink Panther decides to become a matador and, in attempts to find a red cape, snatches one away from a guy, not knowing it was actually a magician's cape. When the panther enters the arena, an angry bull charges at him everywhere and what results are hilarious scenes of the panther dodging the wild animal with an unleashing of the cape's trickery.

It's funny stuff as you see a bird in a cage and flowers appear above the bull's head, and ultimately the animal being split in half with the cape's magic! Thrown into the mix is a bad-tempered magician's rabbit who loves to kick people around (wished the Pink Panther would have taught it a lesson or two).

This is one unique bull fight that will have you laughing from start to finish!

This is a pretty engrossing picture except . . .
cricket303 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
. . . for the part where the bull's back half separates from the front. Here in Texas, there are many bulls, cows and slaughter houses. I have witnessed lots of each, all perfectly legal. For instance, my first meat packing pack tour occurred during my senior year of high school, when I was a domestic exchange student. We went up North in the fall; then the kids from our host families flew down to us the following March and we showed them the town. Our slaughter house was the highlight of the tour, of course. We saw many cattle quarters and halves, but none of them were running around like the bull parts during BULLY FOR PINK. I think this portion of the film is likely to give Americans some wrong impression of cattle, and of the places they frequent, such as Texas. I mean, who'd want gallivant around our highways if they had to worry about colliding with half a bull? I think that such a mishap would be even more jarring than crashing into a whole one--especially if it was the back half, charging around blindly.

Pink Panther Odyssey Part XIV

Although sadly discovering this has been ripped from a Bugs short from a decade previous, it's still one of the strongest Pink toons since the very first. Pink nicks a magic cape to go bullfighting and wild shenanigans ensue - it's sharp, smart and wonderfully paced. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, m'lud!
