A grouchy small town oilman is forced by the chamber of commerce to participate in a program to spend time with local boys without fathers. The boy has an equally disagreeable personality, yet they try to make a go of it by going fishing together. Later,the boy causes trouble by allowing one of the man's prize purebred dogs out of the kennel without permission.

Reporter Joe Kane does a story on a recently deceased rock and roll singer, and finds a mysterious bouquet with a message in Japanese at his grave site. Investigating the source, he interviews people who knew him, including a studio executive and his agent, finally finding he had secretly married a Japanese girl in Tokyo.
