The Best of The Era

The intro to the show with a JATO takeoff of a B-47 was captivating. Please keep in mind that all that same gun-camera footage you've now seen 1000 times was brand-new in 1957. And it certainly didn't hurt to have Walter Cronkite, the single most respected TV journalist of the 20th Century, as the narrator.

The shows were great. It was on Sunday in prime time. And that Time-Life series ISN'T the same material, by the way. AIR POWER has never been on videotape or DVD - and it should be, just as The World At War.

By the way, was it true that the theme song was written as an ode to Norman Jewison?

It's too bad we can't vote on this film!

I've checked back repeatedly after sending a notification to IMDB that there is no voting icon on this webpage. There are several versions of this Cronkite series available. I viewed a 6 cassette version covering WWII which was quite good. I would recommend the film to anyone interested in the aviation of that period and would rate it as a 9.
